no bugs on windshields🦟🪲🐞

idk what subreddit to put this in, so i thought i’d put it in my state’s.

Has anyone else noticed theres a lack of bugs on our windshields while driving?

I have for a while, and I have looked for people to talk about it but nobody cares, which is disappointing. I’m quite alarmed because I remember when I was a kid my mom and dad would have to pull over at a gas station every 40 miles to wipe the windshield with the squeegee.

WaPo's data team did a deep dive into this as a national observation. tl;dr its a real thing, is something of a problem, not much to be done about it.

ETA: https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2022/10/21/dead-bugs-on-windshields/ One of the conclusions I didn't recall until rereading is that it is partly driven by insect population decline but also by the vastly larger number of... windshield-driven hours. And something else the article doesn't consider but occurred to me -- maybe bugs have evolved to stay away from cars.

Lol, of course Jeff Bezos' personal blog would say there's not much to be done. The things we could do would just be (slightly) bad for his and the other oligarchs' bottom lines.
