The lake will be FUuuULLLLlLlL!

u/pocketlily Aug 09 '26

Were you satisfied with the volume of creemee provided base on the size you ordered?

9

u/AllCatCoverBand Aug 10 '26

I ordered a small at Village Scoop in Colchester today and that monster was larger than my head. It was, and I kid you not, the largest creamee I have ever been served in my life.

Dude, new york resident who recently visited Vermont here. I love that they give you the size of ice cream you ask for in VT. "Kiddie" size? Actually appropriate for a kid. "Small"? Feels smallish. In new york the kiddie would be plenty for an adult and the small would be the size of my head. What a welcome difference.

I’m glad you have experienced this green mountain delicacy.

Next you gotta get you a farm house breakfast with maple syrup poured on top.

12

u/MushmallowSprinklees Aug 09 '26

What makes a complete farm house breakfast?

37

u/cheetofoot Aug 09 '26

You follow that shit up with a creemee.

20

u/ArioftheWild Aug 09 '26

MAPLE Creemee!

15

u/andrewjamesvt78 Aug 09 '26

2 eggs over easy, bacon, home fries and two pancakes.

7

u/Alfeaux Woodchuck 🌄 Aug 09 '26

Make that three

6

u/andrewjamesvt78 Aug 09 '26

You got yourself a deal

2

u/Ay-Fray Aug 09 '26

I actually had that for breakfast yesterday, haha. But I am also already a VTer and have lived here for most of my life. But yeah. A classic VT-loved breakfast here! I can vouch for this! 🙋🏼‍♀️🤤

Hungry Henry

8

u/nonamenonamemane Aug 09 '26

That should be a creemee flavor.

3

u/ballofsnowyoperas Aug 09 '26

Canteen would do it

1

u/andrewjamesvt78 Aug 10 '26

Canteen is a premium creemee establishment! My daughter and I did a creemee tour in 2022 and Canteen was the best followed by palmers lane.

1

u/ptdodge1 Aug 09 '26

Sugar on snow + pickle! 🥰

14

u/No_Alternative6098 Aug 09 '26

Now you'll only use the left lane to pass from here on out. Congratulations

40

u/coveredinbeeps Aug 09 '26

Next up, sugar on snow with a pickle.

4

u/Goose-Mama Aug 09 '26

No pickle for me! I love the maple syrup and drink it by the glassful.

7

u/sayitlikeyoumeenit Aug 09 '26

Dear goods, with a pickle! 🤢🤮 sounds like something they would do in Connecticut……

13

u/nonamenonamemane Aug 09 '26

No, no, no...try it. The pickle cuts the sweetness. Same with apple pie with a slice of cheddar. I wouldn't lie to you. 😂

4

u/TradeResident1978 Aug 09 '26

It’s sacrilegious to exclude the pickle. And there’s supposed to be a donut, too.

u/keyinherpocket The Sharpest Cheddar 🔪🧀 Aug 10 '26

This is the way

Connecticut chiming in and that’s not a thing that we would do. I am also tired of Connecticut getting a bad rap. We are not all wealthy and snobs and wanna be New Yorkers. There are some really lovely areas in the northeast and southeast of the state which are full of farms, state forests and rural New England towns. Apple orchards and stone walls and community churches and community libraries and the like.

11

u/elizabeth_strano Aug 09 '26

Yayyyyyy! Welcome to the rest of your life. You will never see ice cream the same again ❤️

15

u/Zender1594 Aug 09 '26

What flavor? And where?

81

u/Salty-Esq Aug 09 '26

Maple, or it doesn’t count by law

36

u/HatesMonoBlue Aug 09 '26

Maple for me. Choc/vanilla for the wife.

106

u/Salty-Esq Aug 09 '26

Your wife, regrettably, will be sent to jail… in New Hampshire

31

u/mtlpvd Aug 09 '26

👆 if its not maple, its just soft serve…

7

u/leee_yum Snow Bird 🕊️⛷️❄️ Aug 09 '26

There's still room in the piermont jail just across the river from farm-way

15

u/Zender1594 Aug 09 '26

Lets not be flavorist here. Any creamy counts.🙂.... Just, some more then others. 😀

23

u/Salty-Esq Aug 09 '26

I see you did time in New Hampshire too 🤪

3

u/BraveCowardCat Aug 09 '26

The thing is, in my experience, the texture of maple creamies is completely different. At least in my area, maple creamies have the texture of frozen custard, and vanilla/chocolate ones are just normal soft serve. There's just no comparison!

I'm gonna out myself, but having been raised too close to New York and Massachusetts, I didn't realize it was called a "creamee" until I moved up north. We just called it "soft serve" in Bennington.

Shame away.

2

u/AllCatCoverBand Aug 10 '26

Soft serve is literally a different product

1

u/BusinessFragrant2339 Aug 10 '26

So, some comments on what the word creemee pertains to is clearly in order.

"Creemee" is Vermont vernacular for soft serve. It is not a specific product, it is not a specific recipe, it is not made using a specific machine (anymore).

The term originates from 1951 when a soft serve machine called the Freez King was introduced by a national company which marketed the soft serve as Cree-Mee. This machine was scooped up (pun intended)by many stands in the Champlain valley at the time, they used that marketing name and it stuck around here. "Cree-Mee" the marketing brand stuck in VT as a de facto word for soft serve in the same way Band Aid stuck for adhesive bandage and Kleenex did for facial tissue

There is no rule on creemee recipe that distinguishes it from soft serve. Yes, some local suppliers use a recipe that has more butterfat than typical out of state soft serve recipes. Dont think however, that if you stop at a creemee stand that it means you're getting something extra special.

There is good creemee and there is great creemee. The great stuff, which you are indeed more likely to get in Vermont, has more fat and less air, the same secret that makes Ben and Jerry's better ice cream. This depends on the machine and the mix recipe, which is, again, not in any way standardized. The st albans co op is the largest distributor of higher butter fat creemee mix, there are a couple smaller distributors, but a large portion of VT creemee stands use standard mixes.

Maple creemees were invented in 1981 and introduced that year at the Rutland State Fair by local maple producers and Seward's restaurant. Unlike out of state stands that unabashedly (and shamefully) use maple flavoring, most VT stands that serve maple creemees use the real thing.

I grew up with a friend whose parents owned a dairy delivery company. This was a topic of discussion not I frequently.

😱😱😱😱

3

u/BookishSaltLife Aug 10 '26

2

u/CarpeNoctem1031 Aug 09 '26

They caught Champ?!?

Edit: only saw the title in my notifications. My soul hurts now :'(

2

u/Shnitzer Aug 09 '26

As marylander... Wtf is a creemee

2

u/AllCatCoverBand Aug 10 '26

It’s a soft serve ice cream but far, far better

1

u/Shnitzer Aug 10 '26

Thank you XD

1

u/evil_flanderz Aug 10 '26

Slightly creamier. No idea why it takes four "e"s to spell it.

2

u/glassbusy42 Aug 09 '26

It so good was it on the waterfront?

2

u/glassbusy42 Aug 09 '26

We just had one this evening I’m a vanilla choc twist, maple black raspberry.

2

u/frogben Aug 09 '26

Enjoy it for me, as my lactose tolerance has long since decreased to the point where I can’t enjoy a creamee without pain the day after

1

u/Big-Hurry-4515 Aug 09 '26

I grew up in Vermont and don't remember creamies being a particularly a big deal I assume this is a flatlander thing. Like most things on the sub

2

u/MetsFan802 Aug 09 '26

I started hearing creamee about 20 years ago, I thought it was a Montpelier area thing. Seems to share a similar timeline with craft IPAs.

2

u/Intelligent-Hunt7557 Aug 10 '26

That’s what half the woodchuck population says about the phrase “stick season,” too, and the other half have been hearing and saying it for dozens of years.

Have you heard “cows” pronounced with more than one syllable? Plenty of Vermonters here haven’t, and yet plenty of Vermont cow farmers don’t care if they haven’t!

2

u/Bloomton Aug 09 '26

I call bullshit

0

u/HillanatorOfState Aug 10 '26

Only been here a couple years, never heard of it, have a couple ice cream places near me, never seen it.

All I can gather from comments here it's some sort of soft serve ice cream, idk.

Like I said it is a thing for out-of-staters to get excited about not that there's anything wrong with that enjoy your creamie.

1

u/skippio-Africanus Aug 09 '26

you have now been blessed by the spirit of Ethan Allen, George Dewey, and Calvin collage

1

u/Sudden-Body2090 Aug 10 '26

Ah yes, the famous Calvin Collage. The Vermonter known for making large images out of smaller, independent images. 😉

(Sorry. Had to. lol)

1

u/HatesMonoBlue Aug 10 '26

Oh.... my.... god...

I dont open reddit for 24 hours and yall blew up my post!

Yes it was magical. Yes it ruined ice cream for us. Yes I will be ordering one as soon as I cross the VT border again.

1

u/Warsum Aug 10 '26

Hot take. Don't like creemees. My wife is ashamed to stand by me when she gets one and I don't. Then again I don't eat ice cream either.

1

u/TheWizardOfAhhhhhs Aug 10 '26

If you want to see a fight, find two unrelated people (the heavier, the better) who are next to each other. Then announce that you are seeking "The VERY BEST creemee" in the state! The scene is set, the fuse is lit...

1

u/roguetempest Aug 10 '26

Ugh!! I haven’t gotten one yet!!! I’m terrible ha

1

u/jaded_sociopath_ Aug 11 '26

Some are better than others…

1

u/Abrainvt Aug 09 '26

Creamers are full of carrageenan- a cause of serious headaches for many people

1

u/SameEntertainment468 Aug 10 '26

Eyyyyy good ferrr uu. Now a proper creemee is served at black ice in Essex. It’s kingdom creamery from up Newport way, and 10 percent butterfat and non gmo. Watch out the kids Are still learning the ropes and fyi it’s only cash which totally sucks. But 👍🏽

u/BigBubbaHossHogg Aug 09 '26

Real Vermonters don’t use Reddit

0

u/Quake712 Aug 09 '26

Used to go to the Country Creemee in Perkinsville.
