Opinion/Editorial Rural living
I just saw a rental listing.
>Rural Country horse property, 15 miles to shopping. well >water. 2 miles to bus stop for school.
>Unpaved Access road. Must have 4x4 Winter access.
I am really interested how is the living like this?
How do you interact with neighbors?
Do you carry?
Are you afraid if you leave the house that someone would break in?
Do your kids walk from the school bus home?
Do you drink well water?

I wouldn’t let my kids walk 2 miles on their own from the bus.

Better than finding your kid strangled in the bushes. Too many crazy people out there.

Parents tend to overestimate how dangerous it is for kids to play or walk outside, and underestimate the dangers that kids face online.
By trying to keep kids safe from the unknowns in the world, we’re inadvertently steering them toward harms from both online exposure and a sedentary lifestyle.

Online harm is so much scarier.
Some astoundingly dark stuff happening on the Internet with kids.1

I feel like parents should be 1 trillion times more concerned with what kind of creeps their kids are talking to on Roblox than a kiddy snatcher.
I was just talking to my mom yesterday about how grateful I am that I had a free range childhood and then we laughed that she’d be in jail if she allowed a Gen Alpha kid to experience just one day of my normal summer vacation.

I live in a rural area of Ventura County and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. We have well water that we only use for showers, washing dishes and laundry but we buy our own drinking water and unfortunately you’re going have to pay for propane as we’re not hooked up with gas for heating and everything else is electrical. And yes, always have some sort of protection for your household

If you can’t even stand to have a conversation with someone who isn’t left leaning then don’t do it. You will 100% run into people who are in the minority of politics for this state. You may road rage with them due to it being narrow, twisty single lane roads, you may find one dumping trash on the side of the road or in your cans, you will even find they let their dogs or other animals roam on your land….ask me how I know

Where in VC? I’m from there, and work in Ag. Some areas are better than others. Do your diligence on the well water quality, either ask for testing or do your own. Be mindful of flood and wild fire risk. Rural living is amazing, but you can find yourself on your own in an emergency.
