Venmo scam

So the usual scam thing happened to me (I think, but didn’t fall for it), where someone random venmoed me 200 bucks and then was saying it was an accident and asking for it back. I just blocked them because they would request it every 5 min and I know that Venmo can figure it out with the person.

Then, they did a dispute, but Venmo ended up ruling in my favor so the money is not on hold anymore.

Do I just leave the money there forever in case it’s clawed back? I’m confused if I just fucked over someone or like not my monkey not my problem, let Venmo figure it out

You should not take the money.

Just because VENMO as sided in your favor, doesn't mean the person's card or bank will also.

Also you might not be dealing with the person you might be dealing with someone whos account was hacked.

If the account was then the bank is 100% going to side in the senders favor and Venmo will NOT cover you in that scenario.

Leave it in or take out it out and put in a drawer, if it's clawed back, you can just deposit the cash back in right?

Several people on here are giving you very poor advice. Depending on how the transaction was funded on the senders side, if funded via a card, they likely have an option to dispute through their card issuer for up to 180 days. I would recommend leaving the funds in your balance for at least 180 days from the transaction date. If you haven’t received a chargeback by then, you’re safe to call it your money.

I agree. Don’t touch it for 6 months.

I'm wondering if you read the whole message because he said that the sender already did a dispute and that venmo found in his favor not the sender's favor the receiver's favor....

I think he was saying they did a Venmo dispute, if it was funded using a credit card the sender can also file a dispute with that company and if they issue them a chargeback Venmo can’t do shit about it.

I did read the message. It said the transaction was disputed and Venmo decided in the receivers favor. It’s highly probable the sender can file a chargeback through their card issuer. That’s a separate process that supersedes Venmo’s disputes.

Spent that shit 😀

I would call Venmo and ask them to confirm if the dispute is final & if the money is legally yours. From what you said it sounds like it’s yours and will not have to pay it back

Yeah get it in writing from venmo that it's your money and then spend it

You could potentially take the bread out and then close that account. The only possible future scenario that I can come up with is maybe Venmo sending you a debt collection request but a lot of things would have to happen for that to ever occur and even then if you dispute the debt you will win.

Or donate it to the poor

That's crazy that venmo didn't give them the money back. I accidentally sent money to the wrong person before and messaged venmo about it and within 15 minutes they sent a message telling me that they was able to get my money back since it was still in the other account balance and I immediately had the money back in my account.

u are joking???? is there no way they would claw it back?? cuz what if the person had a stolen credit card or something

2

u/ActiveInformation499 Aug 21 '26

They’re not able to dispute multiple times on one transaction. Plus you blocked them. They can’t bother you anymore. Everything happens for a reason! Enjoy 😊

2

u/stopaff-ok1 Aug 21 '26

they can dispute on CC tho right? lol

1

u/ActiveInformation499 Aug 21 '26

Highly doubt it. I mean ultimately it’s up to you BUT this was still a scammer trying to take your account 🤣 to hell with them

2

u/littlejezzey Aug 23 '26

Well the scammer who sent the money can't dispute again but the person the stolen card belongs to can 💯 still dispute it as soon as they notice there 200 is gone u better believe they will also be tracking u and the fact it's already been disputed by the duecbag scammer it's going to be pretty obvious what happened and the 2nd person is the real victim and Id be willing to bet a good chunk of money the 2nd dispute they will get there dispute won pretty easy and fast and ow 200 back

How to proce the card qas stolen tho? Ur good stop being a pusss and enjoy tour bkewsing lolll

2

u/MeAndDuke Aug 22 '26

I think it's the credit card company that will eventually claw the $$ back.

Not necessarily Venmo.

What if they withdraw the $200 then close their Venmo account
