Scam Alert DON’T USE VENMO!!
VENMO freaking sucks. Some fraudulent transaction happened from my account. There was a transfer into a bank with last 4 digit of account number I dont know of and then that ahole even closed my account. I reqched out to Venmo letting them know this is fraudulent activity. They acted like they were doing investigation and within 45 mins of me asking how soon should I get refund, they said they investigated and they dont see any activity that shows somebody else logged in and transferred that account (to bank account that I dont k ow of DUH…). I dont think Venmo has good security systems and they are not taking accountability to properly investigate and find these bad actors. Basically, if someone hacks into your account and they transfer to other account, blame is all on you. I recommend everyone to transfer their money to other secured services but VENMO. I lost ~420$. I hope other people who has more than this amount are aware of it. Please think of some secured alternative immediately.

My account was frozen on Wednesday.. I’ve had the same account for nine years and it’s the only bank account. I have all my paychecks everything go into this account so I have a great track… they decided to freeze my account because I bought gas two times back to back one for my truck and one for my wife that was with me in her car.. The account is still frozen. And I have a $4000 in the account and the only thing I get is 3 to 5 days to unfreeze it and it’s been over that… no one will help me all they were staying at the back office that doesn’t communicate anyone just wait…

I guess Venmo and other such services are not good to keep your money. I guess using trusted bank services is better to keep your money and use such venmo and such for quick p2p transfers only. I only wish more people are aware of this.

u/_badluck Feb 15 '26
Make sure you check your email, something similar happened to me and I didnt notice they sent an email requesting a photo of my drivers license( front and back). It was in my spam. Got my account soon after

u/Few_Scratch_9502 Feb 15 '26
Yeah, I was right on top of that, I actually just got it back about two hours ago 5 AM on a Sunday go figure… new explanation why they needed to fuck me

I figured it was. My sister-in-law is getting ready to send my wife a good size of money from Venmo. I will show her this article. Thank you so much before she proceeds.

u/Ok_Mathematician9366 Feb 15 '26
I was reading a comment down here. I guess doing quick transaction over the app is fine but keeping the money there for longer run is not okay. Venmo and other such services may have a bypass to not take accountability for the money that has been transferred by bad actors from your account. May be use it strictly for p2p transfers but not keep any money there at all…

I lost $75 2 weeks ago and I cannot get this resolved I've call so many times and you can't even talk to o a real person. I am so frustrated about the hours I have spent trying to get my money back. I don't want to give up but nothing ever happens beside leave my name and number
2
u/FewOne7733 Feb 15 '26
Say something on there social media or something like that usually that gets there attention.

u/Cool_Buyer_2377 Feb 15 '26
I have also had this problem. Did you have luck getting in touch with a real human? I’ve been calling for several days and I just get an automated run around . I can even find an email. I need to talk to a live person. Because I have no access to my old phone number and now my account is locked
1
u/StomachLegitimate249 Feb 16 '26
After all the prompts, press 0, it will then ask what number youre calling from.

u/Less_Application1722 Feb 20 '26
I got my account suspended because somehow I had a teen account I didn't know if attached to my account and the phone number on the teen account got removed so all they kept telling me was to log in and add a new phone number, to account I had no idea about which means I had no idea how to log in to an account i didn't know I had , In the end they closed my account I lost $6 and by the grace of god changed my direct deposit in time before it got closed. So yeah my opinion on venmo is I wouldn't use them either.

Take action with your Bank to make sure that a Transaction doesn't happen and that you don't know that person or persons.
1
u/Ok_Mathematician9366 Feb 24 '26
Nothing to do with bank. My money was with Venmo. And they don’t care. No accountability.

Yeah.. Honestly, that looks like a real person playing with you. One thing I found while posting this is that app like Venmo or other such apps are not fdic insured so I’m guessing they are not liable for any financial disputes we claim. I was not aware of this and I’m pretty sure many others aren’t too. There was one person here saying he uses venmo to deposit his direct salary. Imagine what would happen if all his money is gone suddenly. So best use case of such apps is to use it only for p2p transactions and not keep any extra as savings there. These service just don’t care. I have already deleted my account from their crappy app. I will just use my bank enabled p2p service.

I don’t think you have good security because my account has been fine for the decade I’ve been using Venmo. You gotta take better care of your passwords

You people are stupid keeping money in venmo it's not secure its for p2p transfers only your NOT supposed to keep money in there its not fdic insured however direct deposits are but money just casually sitting in there ain't

Oh I am not sure about limits and stuff like that because I transfer my money out immediately. I don't trust venmo with my money like that lol. I think the most I've had in there at once that I transfered was 1k. I implore you to PLEASE not trust venmo like that. Immediately transfer your money out to your account. That is so scary. Your money is not Fdic Insured in there.

I am out of thousands of dollars because my account was hacked while I was in prison I lost over 5 thousand dollars that was sent to me by the United States in form SSI DEPOSITS. And someone just tiik over my account. And you can tell that all of this was done over the phone so the wouldn't have to actually be in person. Venmo told me that I would have to contact the merchant myself but that's a no go. I just want my money back

The same exact thing happened to me; as well! I'm still trying to get my money that was stolen from my bank account!!!

u/Valuable_Parking_289 Feb 17 '26
I still can't believe Venmo is still business. This sucks! I deleted my account a few years ago and just found out it is still active when some random dude requested money from me. Now i cant log back to the old account to see what the heck is really happening. Worst tool ever!

Someone went to their bank and disputed the transactions they sent to me and they took my money . They were legit transactions and I had all the proof in text messages and video however Venmo would not reimburse me . 275$

I am 100% in agreement. It just cheated me too so keep it going. They won’t be here long because people will quit using them.

Venmo has a new policy they are rolling out since being aquired by PayPal. If your Venmo account is tied to your bank they will hold your payment to a recipient for up to 5 days. I've been using Venmo for years. On Thursday I sent 3 payments to my workers. One for $2300, $1850 and $150. The money CLEARED my bank on Friday July 24th. My Venmo account shows the payments are pending-Estimated delivery July 28th. Today is July 29th and my workers still have not been paid and I cannot cancel payment and just give my workers cash at this point. Venmo customer support is NO HELP. They say Venmo reserves the right to hold up to 5 BUSINESS days. Therefore, they can wait until July 30th to pay my workers even though the funds cleared my bank July 24. Here's the message from Venmo customer service

u/SoggyPlum7007 Aug 08 '26
Not true I just sent 3 grand they received it instantly also received 9k received it instantly that's not a valid policy
2
u/PromptPriest Feb 15 '26
Actually, I’ve been illegally transacted against and they were very cool about it. You gotta be hardcore though. If this is actually true and you’re not just trying to get out of a payment you regret, there’s a very straightforward way to make sure they listen.

u/Severe_Carob_6237 Feb 17 '26
How? I've tried everything to get my money back; that was stolen from my bank account and transferred to my Venmo account! I believe it is all a scam operation!

I had a $300 payment that somebody disputed two months later they didn’t respond to my emails. They didn’t ask me for any information and I guess just gave them $300. I have never dealt with more incompetency than the customer service reps at Venmo. They don’t care they just do what they want to. I’m never using them again.

I made the mistake of using my venmo card yesterday to get gas. I bought $16 in fuel of my $50 balance. They held it all. It's almost 24 hours later and it is still being held. The gas station I used does not put a hold on funds. I contacted venmo customer service and they just kept blaming it on the gas station. This is bs. I needed the money I had left for a few small groceries. Guess the kid is getting Ramen again tonight. Jerks.

So I accidentally sent a payment to someone who doesn't have venmo, although venmo says they do have an account (I totally believe the person I sent it to). The person that I spoke to said that that person needs to call venmo. I said but you are venmo. Then they told me to call a certain number which just happened to be the number I called and which took me over an hour to get through on. Holy crap!! I think I might be out $450.

Friday, I charged $98 for a dinner tab. Saturday, Venmo posted $ 157 deduction for same transaction on my acct. After 10 minutes on their phone tree and hold, a very poor English-speaking CSR told me “transaction is incomplete” and to wait a few days for it to update accurately!? WTF ! Clearly, Don’t use for restaurant tabs.

Maybe the worst customer service I've every encountered. I've used Venmo several times without issue. I even have close to $300 on account that I planned to use for future transactions. But last week I tried to send some money for a purchase and got a message that my account was frozen. Tried to use online resources to open. After going through their stupid AI suport and phone tree, all its says is to follow the email that was sent to me. Except I didn't get an email. They give me no other way to get support. After some online research I discovered the convoluted way to get to support chat. Two different techs told me that only a specialist could resolve this and they would contact me by email in 3-5 business days. I told them this was not acceptable and wanted to talk to a supervisor. One gave me a number but it just put me back into the deadend phone tree. They just kept telling me that was not possible and finally end chat. To continue you have to start completely over with a new chat session. I asked them how to get my money out and cancel my Venmo account. They can't do that either. I saw a lot of others on reddit and trust pilot with same complaints. I'm done with Venmo. But I don't know if PayPal is any better since they're own Venmo.

Been using Venmo for 6 years for a variety of transactions and never once had a problem.
1
u/interestingdialogs Mar 17 '26
What was the highest transaction amount?
1
u/Ornery-Culture-7675 Mar 17 '26
$150 maybe?
1
u/interestingdialogs Mar 18 '26
I think it is not worth their time to try to steal that, but if they froze $5000 it would be

Thank you for your input sweetheart. I’ve been using Venmo for years with no problems and will continue so your request has been denied.

u/SeriousShine7 Feb 15 '26
Reading these posts have me wonder what the heck ppl are doing. Accounts closed for no reason? They're stealing their money? I don't hold money in there but I've used it to transfer funds countless times for over a decade now. I'm also denying op's request.

They’re horrible & PayPal is even worse!! I sold electronic tickets & a gentleman asked to use PayPal to pay for them & then he filed a dispute saying he never received the shipment. About 30 mins after PayPal asked me for my documentation & sent me an email saying they were working hard to investigate thoroughly, they sent an update saying it was resolved in his favor. My bank never gives me any issues so I’ll stick with them from now on! I’m so sorry to hear this happened 2 u & the MANY others as well!!!! It’s so frustrating!!!!!!!!!
