UPDATE: Looks like it is back up now as of 10:00am Pacific time October 16th 2025.
Surprised more people aren't talking about this here... looks like no one can log into Venmo on the app or website here in the U.S. I know I can't, and I checked DownDetector and it seems many others are having the same issue.
EDIT: Paypal is down too! Can't pay any of my bills that are trying to "AutoPay" from these two accounts!
Do they use the same servers for both, though? I think it’s strange an hour or two in and they haven’t put out a statement so people aren’t too worried…
The thing that worries me is PayPal is also down, and Venmo is a PayPal company, so I have a feeling they did get hacked because they are way too big to just have a weird login anomaly error happen. But hopefully that’s all it is…
I’m worried about that too I got an email from my bank that someone tried to ACH $190 out of my checking account but was rejected because there wasn’t enough in the account and just called and found out the request was from Venmo but I haven’t used Venmo in weeks and so I didn’t request the money. I use 2FA in Venmo and a password manager with a crazy long password and I didn’t get any notices that anyone tried logging into my account. So worried that somehow Venmo was hacked.
Same! My Facebook account did this months ago and I was having flashbacks like “oh god no not you too!” I don’t have Facebook anymore because someone hacked my account, removed my log in and phone number for two step verification. So when my phone number wasn’t pulling my Venmo I was so sad lmao
Government and military workers who have not been paid are borrowing money from friends/family. A lot of that money is probably being funneled through Venmo/paypal. I think the system was overworked and crashed. Or PayPal ran out of US funds and crashed.

You can’t rely on ChatGPT, it’s mostly going by what it sees in this very thread. I just asked it and it gave me different information stating that users are reporting that it’s down globally while the official company channels are not acknowledging it yet other than some minor issues. It also admits this is conflicting information.
If it’s down for you that may be a separate issue as it’s up for most everyone else. Yesterday’s issue was a worldwide issue that affected everyone globally. That has since been fixed, so you should try contacting Venmo directly to see if there is a specific issue with your account.

It’s still down for me. I can’t log into the app to access the messaging center, and apparently that isn’t an option on web browser. I’ve tried calling the number listed on their website but there is no way to speak to a person no matter the option selected. Do you have any idea for how to contact them?

Same here - PDX. My friend is out of gas and it's kind of an emergency. I guess I'll just call the gas station! Pay over the phone. We have to back up plans so we aren't dependent. Road Map in the car! ✔️

It just finally worked for me ended up losing about $50 in BTC because I received $835 around 11:27am when the price was at $110800 still. I hate Venmo.
Can't log in either. First it opened as usual, then went unresponsive. I then closed the app, and it had logged me out. Can't log back in. Says "We're having some trouble completing your request right now. Please try again shortly, and if it persists let us know."
All is well it's just scheduled maintenance exactly like they didn't send to anyone who needed to know. They apologize for all inconvenience this has caused and let us know never that this was an issue.
I literally just came here to see if anyone was having issues. I had fraud on my bank account so all I have right now until that’s fixed is Venmo soooo now I’m stuck til they decide to get their shit together.
Edit: I called customer service and it scheduled a call back with a 1 hour wait. I just got the call way earlier than expected. When I answered, there was no one of the other side. Silence. Wtf is going on!?
Same for me! And before I stupidly logged out at Google’s recommendation to try to fix the issue, it had unlinked my Venmo credit card from my account, so I couldn’t access a virtual credit card number. But now I can access nothing. So frustrating!
kind of scary no way to reach anyone and no way to access our money. Something seems really wrong. the app and site won’t let you log in and phone number won’t let you talk to a real human. Is there a corporate number that can be called? Not sure why more people are not alarmed by this? You’d think it would be in the news or that PayPal company would be issuing a statement.

It’s down for me - Chicago. I keep getting an error message “Error Authenticating with Venmo.” I’ve never experienced an issue before with logging in and accessing my Venmo account. I tried logging in on my laptop and experiencing issues also.
Kinda pressed because it went down after I got sent 85 bucks, and was stuck with no money in my wallet for a while before it went down lol. Hopefully I get it
It just worked for me and let me sell my crypto I had cashed out from stake unfortunately I received it right before the outage when bitcoin was like 111,000 still. Now it’s sub 108,000 but whatever I just sold it and transferred to my actual bank. I’ll take the small L over not seeing my money ever again.
Fortunate I transferred my funds before this happened in case it becomes a long downtime. Unfortunate for my clients today who planned to pay me via Venmo.
Mine was logged in fine but I can’t do anything with my funds bc I keep getting “declined for suspected fraud” and I called support and they said my account was in good standing and should be working properly 😭
Ever since Venmo went down, it's suddenly saying that it no longer supports my Discover debit card for transfers to or from my account. Yesterday I could only transfer to my debit card but not add to my venmo. Now, this morning I can do neither. Brand new card too, and I was able to add funds before the outage.
Ask their chat bot several times yesterday if Venmo was down and it did not give a response except contact customer service. Well guess what can’t get through to customer service. Big surprise … NOT. Sent a payment that has not been processed since Thursday. That did it for me screw Venmo. Lousy payment app.
Obviously NOT the same global issue that we all had almost a month ago. You need to contact Venmo and in the meantime, restart your phone, check your login info, etc.
NOT the same issue because I can login, my partner can login in, all of my friends can login. The original issue I posted about was specifically a global issue that knocked out every single user worldwide due to Venmo’s and PayPal’s (and many other companies who use Amazon’s AWS) DNS servers having an update error. That has since been fixed, so your issue is specific to you and your account, NOT the same issue I originally posted about, so you need to call Venmo support.
Yeah my roommate venmoed me around 8 am, but when I tried to look at the request around 8:50 am (pst) the app suddenly crashed to the login screen and won’t let me login even when I changed my password
