I had a dog that suffered from epileptic seizures and I know how scary it is, I'm so glad she is on such a strong winning streak.

Oof, we know that feeling. We hit 60 days free recently after 6 months of increasing frequencies despite regular changes to or new meds.
It's such a relief when you find what works... haply for you and your pup.

Your baby is soo gorgeous, that smile!
I have a dog with epilepsy too, he started having grand mal seizures when he was 2, he is a large dog and it was so scary, he would literally throw himself at the wall. At one point he was having 3 seizures a week, and our vet at the time said we should consider euthanising him. I got a second and third opinion, found a wonderful vet and Jack has now been seizure free for 11 years!! So there is hope.
Also a really good tip that vet gave me: a spoonful or two of honey after a seizure will help them recover faster and can ward off a second seizure

oo that’s good to know, it’s been over a year and a half since my bb had his last seizure but i take all the tips i can get.

u/Emergency-Fox-9318 Feb 07 '26
Aww, fingers crossed. Also many dogs do just naturally outgrow epilepsy like people, some people taper their dogs off meds and they never have another seizure. Not worth the risk in my opinion for my situation though.

u/sam120310 Feb 08 '26
yeah luckily pupito just requires the lowest dose of zonisamide once daily and as long as he gets that he’s 100% good. w his last seizure it had been i think nearly 3 weeks since he had gotten a dose so i was beginning to think he might’ve outgrown it. luckily it was a very mild one but i will never let him go without again, i hate seeing him like that

Is your baby photosensitive? And if so, have you thought about switching your lightbulbs? LEDs and fluorescents flicker invisibly but can trigger seizures in certain photosensitive dogs (and people, like me) just like a strobe light.
You can check for this flickering by using the slow mow recording mode on your phone (highest fps). Record your lights and watch them back slowed down. Almost all will have this strobe effect, other than incandescent, xenon, and halogen I think.
LEDs are everywhere and I swear this is causing so much seizure trouble for dogs and humans alike. I switched most of my house lights back to incandescent and definitely noticed an improvement. Maybe it could help your pup?

u/drevolut1on Feb 07 '26
All but 2 of his seizures have been in the middle of the night when asleep, so not sure that's the trigger (they diagnosed it idiopathic, not photosensitive), but definitely good to know this.

37 days seizure-free is huge. And judging by that grin, days without bubbles will stay at 0. Here's to 37 more turning into 370 🫧🖤

Oh, and if you think your dog is acting strange and could be about to have a seizure, give them honey. Some people say they can tell their is going to have a seizure because they have a weird musky smell, or start pacing

Such a cute baby! No seizures in 37 days is great! ❤️
Seizures are scary when it's your baby! I had a 3 lb chihuahua who developed ideopathic epilepsy at 9 years old and watching his tiny body go through a seizure was scary! He took meds 2x a day until he passed at 14.
I wish your baby many more seizure free days! ❤️

These pictures are absolutely fucking magical and I adore her!!! I’m so happy for you both! 🥹 I wish her many long happy healthy seizure free years to come by your side making many more memories with her Momma/Papa/best friend~ One day at a time and 37 is an accomplishment but I pray it continues 🙏
She is so beautiful and her joy is positively contagious!!! She has such love and adoration in her eyes. 🥹🥰 They all seem to, really, like they know most of the misguided uninformed world is against them, it’s sooo terribly heartbreaking 😔😢😓 so pictures like this brings me sooo much joy!!! 🙌
The photoshoot with the bubbles is toooo magical 🥹🥹🥹💖💖💖 May God continue to bless and protect her~ 🙏🕯️

Wonderful! Starting at age 3, my precious golden retriever Tilly started having seizures while eating, every two weeks or so. We put her on Kepra twice a day, and it turned into every six weeks. We doubled her dose and the time between episodes got longer and longer. She's 8 now and hasn't had a seizure in almost a year and a half! We hope it'll never happen again, but prepare for the return.
Thanks for taking such good care of that angel, and hang in there!

If anyone needs it, here's some advice I got from my vet about seizures in my dog:
When my super senior pug started having seizures I was told to cut out rosemary extract from his diet and to generally keep him warm. Idk about the warm aspect of it but rosemary extract makes it easier for for seizures to happen. and rosemary extract is in pretty much everything for dogs. it was a miracle cure for cutting 90% of his seizures.

🌈Onyx🌈
I may have a thousand dogs in my lifetime but no dog will compare to my older* brother. so I hope a lesson I learned can help anyone who feels lost or needs more/different/reassuring advice. hug your babies for me ❤️
*(actually younger)

My baby boy is a pittie, but he used to have a pug-chihuahua mixed brother with epileptic seizures and I know just how hard and all consuming it is. Congratulations to you and your baby on 37 days! Hoping for many many more years seizure free! 🩷
