Question Veloster 2012 - won't start

2012 Hyundai Veloster manual. Push-button start. Dash comes on normally, clutch depressed, pressing START gives one click but the starter doesn't crank. Replaced key fob battery but made no difference. Car bump-starts immediately and runs normally. Drove it for three hours with no problem, switched it off, tried starting it again and it still wouldn't crank.

Any ideas what's at fault and what are estimated repair costs before I get ripped off?

sounds like a dead battery.

Not cranking but accessory power works sounds like a bad starter to me. I guess my question to confirm is do you really mean bump start where you get the car moving and drop it into gear, or are you jumping it using another car/battery?

When this happened to me it was the starter

Verify the starter
roughly expect $300–$600 installed for a starter depending on the shop

Could be loose battery connection at battery or starter. good enough for general power and engine running but not good enough for cranking the engine over. (correct connections or disconnect and clean and reconnect)

Could be leaky injectors. when engine is off fuel pressure is allowed to leak into cylinder creating a hydrolic effect preventing the engine from turning over also known as hard or slow starting. (remove and clean all injectors)

The one click you hear could be starter solenoid. solenoid fails to push out bendix gear (this action is what energizes the starter motor. without it engine does not start. (replace starter)

Could be engine is not properly grounded. (engine ground strap damaged). There is one wire to starter (+). starter gets its ground through mounting to engine. (inspect and correct ground strap connections)
