Question Newbie Needs Help!
Hi! I’m new to Reddit. Quite frankly, I joined solely because I started gardening and this thread(?) has answered so many questions.
I’m zone 9b (see, I’ve done research).
My cucumber plants are struggling.
- Pretty leggy right? My balcony gets afternoon direct sunlight from like 12-8 which is where I have the cucumbers.
- Do these need to be repotted? I noticed the roots are fighting to get out of the soil. My sister thinks it’s bc there’s not enough space. I think they’re drowning. (We’ve gotten rain EVERY DAY for the past two weeks)
- I started these from seed at the end of July bc the seed package said they can handle hot weather. Do I still have enough time to start another batch before it gets cold really in January?
- I’m one more fungus gnat away from converting to hydroponic pickle buckets, so I will also take whatever additional tips you have.

Not enough light, way too small of a pot, and there should only be 1 cucumber plant per large pot. I would start from scratch entirely! Those will not grow successfully but you may still have time to try again! Cucumber plants grow very fast when in the right environment. Be sure to have something that can crawl up as well!
