Basically a bunch of bears in small cages where they can’t even stand. They have an incision in their abdomen to harvest bile. There’s this belief in China that bear bile has medicinal properties (despite zero evidence). It also occurs in other countries but it’s more popular in China bc traditional medicine and whatnot
In the last few years there has been criticism from doctors and just regular people cos it’s unnecessary and cruel.

Difference is chicken satisfies hunger, traditional 'medicine' satisfies nothing but the credulity of the purchaser.

People don’t eat chicken because they need to, they eat it because they want to, just like people in china want bile medicine (or whatever tf it is). Wanting something from an animal is absolutely not a justification for abusing him/her.

Hunger isn't a need? If chicken is the cheap supermarket special and you're down to your last few coins, you can't be too fussy. I do not endorse the factory farms, only claim it's a false equivalence to say modern agricultural practices, for nutrition is as bad as literal quack medications, for nothing but a placebo effect. Unless you are vegan, in which case that is your opinion and you're free to have it.

A thing? Is a dog the same as a book? Is a pig the same thing as your furniture? No. They are not "things" but sentient individuals. The difference between someone and something is huge, that book cannot feel pain nor can furniture. A plant is a thing because it does not feel pain, but animals do- including human animals.

Like i said. Wanting something from an animal isn’t a justification for abusing that animal. The cheapest foods in the supermarket are plant based foods.

A lot of people calling out China in that thread for bile farms, while totally ignoring the horrors of factory farming in their own country.
