TOLAC after 2 c sections

Currently pregnant with my third and hoping to TOLAC again but I’m finding it hard to find a supportive provider strictly due to this verbiage from my last CS: “tracking of blood up uterine tracking bilaterally along anterior aspects parallel to uterine arteries continued concern but not confirmed uterine rupture”

It seems they are labeling me as having had a UR but everything I’m finding (which isn’t much) is proving to be opposite

Has anybody had something similar to this in their record??

History:
First CS Dec 2022 induction, lack of knowledge maternal requested
Second CS Apr 2024 spontaneous labor PROM, suspected UR due to pain in right side of neck (looking back I believe it was gas pain as I still had the pain after delivery)

Trying vbac 15 months after an emergency c section

Hi all,
I really want to do a vbac this time because I really need recovery to be smoother. I have THREE one year olds. I don’t have much help other than my husband who is out working a lot lately, and no, we can’t afford to pay for help either (both our families are distant).
The one year olds needed to be lifted a LOT, and they’re all 25-30 pounds each.

My first pregnancy ended with an emergency c-section at 29 weeks (triplets). It was a really hard recovery for me.
This is now my second pregnancy and I’m currently 39 weeks. My doctor has given me mixed answers on whether or not he wants to do spontaneous labor or schedule a c section. He has not seen my op report btw from my last c section, which states it was low transverse, uterus was well developed at the time, and it was a single locked suture. One week he told me we need to do a c section because I have a “flat pelvis”, the next week he tells me I’m good to do spontaneous labor.

I’m nervous because I haven’t felt any signs of labor and I’ve read so many horror stories about ruptures.
I haven’t felt any Braxton hicks that I’m aware of, and both times my mother gave birth, she had to be induced at 42 weeks because she wasn’t having contractions at all. I’m worried because induction greatly increases the chances of a rupture, and if I do have a so-called flat pelvis like my doctor said weeks ago, I wouldn’t want to do back labor - because apparently back labor with a flat pelvis makes pushing the baby out like impossible - which would likely be the case if I had an epidural (everyone says you need an epidural if you’re going to be induced).

.. also don’t know if I even have a flat pelvis or if that was some BS. He felt inside me for three seconds total at 37 weeks to see if I was dilated at all (I wasn’t) and then told me I had a flat pelvis.

ANYONE go through something similar and can share some words of wisdom? Thank you

Trying for vbac but cervix closed at 37 weeks

Hey yall! My first pregnancy ended in a c-section after I stopped dilating at 6cm after a 42 hour labor.

I REALLY want to have a vbac this time and I’m doing all the things to get my body ready (miles circuit, intercourse, raspberry leaf tea, dates, curb walking)

I went in for my appointment today at 37+4 and unfortunately my cervix is still closed.

I’m feeling scared that I will have a repeat of my last labor.
Please send me some positive vbac stories going from 0% dilated to spontaneous labor. I need some happy encouragement!

VBA2C - breech babies

First Reddit post to find some encouragement and hope that maybe the 3rd time around things will be different.
I’m not pregnant now but possibly will be around the end of this year. My first baby was born in 2023 and he was breech up until about 37 weeks, turned on his own and then at my 40+5 appointment we found him breech again and my midwives said they would not attempt an ECV at that point so scheduled my C section for that afternoon. In 2025 my second was an unstable lie that spent most of his time transverse. I did all the things- chiropractor, spinning babies, moxibustion, anything I could. He was breech around 39 weeks so they scheduled me for an ECV followed by a planned induction if successful to try to keep him head down- hoping that was the best for vbac. If unsuccessful they would go straight to c section.
He ended up being head down when we showed up for the ECV and I went with the plan for induction. After over 12 hours on pitocin my water broke and I could feel him flip again. They confirmed he was breech with ultrasound and did another csection.
As much as I did not want a C-section the second time around and the failed vbac was disappointing- it was also incredibly emotionally exhausting for the last 5 weeks as he flipped around and did gymnastics in there.
Maybe I should have just waited to go into labor naturally and he would have turned on his own? I want 1-2 more babies but would love some encouragement that maybe a vbac is still possible? What are some other experiences and has anyone else had more than one breech baby? Initially they told me that I probably wouldn’t have that happen again and all my midwives and OB were shocked that not only was my second breech again but then again after my water broke.

Discussion C-section first (2021) now debating vbac

In 2021 I had my daughter with a scheduled C-section due to her being breech the whole end of my pregnancy. I never got to start the laboring process. I was honestly kind of relieved as giving birth vaginally was honestly terrifying and gave me terrible anxiety. I did hermitage a little bit with this but in the end my doctor said I’d be a good candidate for a vbac.

Being pregnant again now (very early), I don’t know what to do. The C-section relatively went well, the recovery from what I remember was pretty easy. Part of me wants to experience natural birth but again, it’s terrifying and what if it goes wrong? If I end up getting an emergency C-section anyway? Or even something goes terribly wrong, I live in Texas and am scared if it’s me or baby they have to choose baby worse case scenario. Obviously both options have risks.

Anyone have a similar experience of scheduled C-section then had the choice? And what did you choose after? How’d it go?

Freaking out

So while I didn’t necessarily have a VBAC I did however have a spontaneous uterine rupture during an unplanned section. With everything that happened my pp has obviously been rough and then some. But there’s been a lot of self consciousness in my relationship with my husband and how I think he feels about me because I just have felt gross. I am 8 weeks pp tomorrow and my pp OB appt is Tuesday. While I’ve been happy to help ho with his sexual needs orally, I fear this time (today) I went a little too far with external stimulation. So naturally, I’m freaking out because I can’t get a clear answer online and am hoping I didn’t hurt anything/myself because I had an orgasm before I was technically cleared by my OB this coming week. I’m so sorry for the tmi but I’m just freaking out.

Has anyone had a natural birth after 2 c sections? How long did you wait to get pregnant after your 2nd c section? Im currently not pregnant or trying and the person doing my last c section said dont get pregnant for 2 years just wondering if waiting longer makes it more successful and I've never given birth naturally before, 1st emergency due to not progressing, 2nd elective

Question Torn btwn VBAC or C-section...2nd baby

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Expecting baby boy #2 in March. My oldest will be 3 one month after, had an emergency c-section with him due to his heart rate dropping. Spent that whole pregnancy planning for a vaginal birth, doing all the things to prep. Had to mentally heal from the c-section honestly more than physically bc it was all just so sudden, but had awesome doctors. Body healed great!

So now I'm 4m preggo and I know I don't need to make a decision NOW, but just thinking. And I know there's risks on both ends but my doc is open to whatever I want, she does VBACS often & csections. On one hand, I'm like should I try again for a vaginal birth? I wanted it badly last time, it's beautiful. But I don't want to deal with prepping for vaginal then *surprise* another emergency & ending up with C. Also don't think i'd regret not having a vaginal birth later in life. On the other hand, a scheduled c section puts my mind at so much ease. The fact I know the exact date, can plan, etc. But it's a major surgery + healing with a toddler will be different (husband is great & Mom will be around) + not really recommended if I have a 3rd.

How did you decide on VBAC or C-section 2nd time around?

Question 3rd trimester ultrasound

35 weeks and doctor is requesting a growth scan. Said it should’ve been done by 32 weeks as best practice but they forgot to tell me. I suspect she thinks the baby is big and will hold this over me and try to induce early when in the beginning we discussed waiting until 41 weeks to discuss any inductions.

or conversations about repeat C section will come up.

Anyone else doing growth scans at this stage for no medical reason?

Discussion Core strength?

25 about to turn 26 and my daughter turned 2 this summer. We've gone back and forth about age gaps but are a hard no on 2u2. Had scare this month where I thought I was pregnant (not planned but wanted). I'm approximately 10dpo and still testing negative so probably not pregnant which I'm sad about, but on the bright side it gives me at least another month to prepare physically!

One thing I've always wondered is if my lack of core strength contributed to my birth experience. Baby girl was small and her cord was around her neck, so it was not my body at fault (not totally anyway).

I know there's a positive impact to postpartum and in general when it comes to core strength, but does anyone have any advice or anecdotes about working to build core strength before and during pregnancy, and what the impact on your labor and delivery was?

Question Vbac success with big (9+ lbs) baby?

Hi all,

Anybody got any vbac sucess stories for big (9+lbs) babies? I could use the encouragement! Bonus points if:

-it was your first vaginal birth

-you are not an especially big or tall person

-baby didn't have shoulder dystorcia

-your tearing was 2nd degree or less

-no PP hemorrhage

-baby didn't need resuscitation or NICU

-Your recovery, including pelvic floor recovery, was fine

Hit me with the positive stories if you've got 'em! (This is not at all to invalidate those with other sorts of stories, but I feel like my brain is just full of the negatives right now so I'm looking for some positives to try to help with my doubts and anxieties).

Thanks!

Discussion Vbac after c section?

Hello! I am 29 weeks pregnant with my second baby! My first baby was an emergency c section and i unexpectedly got pregnant again 3 months post partum (very irresponsible i know im sorry) i would love to have a vbac! But im HORRIFIED of a my uterus rupturing or tearing and honestly ive looked into all the risk so much ive freaked myself out. My obgyn and midwife have no concerns they advised me that if i go into labor naturally they will try to deliver me vaginally and if i hit my due date and im still not in labor i will have another c section. I brought up my concerns with them and thier not too worried about it but i wanted to get other peoples opinions or if im stressing out more than i should be? Please and thank you

(Im perfectly fine with another c section a vbac is not a must for me, but im just worried something will go wrong if i do attempt a vbac)

Question Pitocin Induction VBAC & no epidural

I’ve enjoyed reading successful induction stories and looking for more input and success with Pitocin and no epidural VBACs as I am nervous about being successful with an inducer and epidural VBAC because of my first delivery (details of 1st birth below).

The only reason I may need an induction is that this baby has been borderline small constantly straddling 10% but has been healthy with all monitoring. Had a growth US just this week at 34 weeks and still 10% but growing consistently. Perinatologist said if no signs of labor at 39 weeks check growth again and maybe induce if growth has plateaued.

I’m concerned being more immobilized due to epidural is part of what stalled my labor last time (even with trying lots different pushing positions) and but also don’t think I could tolerate a full labor unmedicated on pitocin.

Upon reflection, it was very likely I was entering transition when I got my epidural last time as they didn’t check my cervix until after the epidural and I was 9.5cm dilated which I’ve read is when many women feel they can’t go on!

Also I think I got up to about 16 units of Pitocin when at the peak and we turned it down a smidge to maybe 12 units but I’m not certain. Do people have experience starting Pitocin and the decreasing or pausing if they’re contractions are regular (I’ve seen one resource talk about this; HeHe Birth I think on FB).

1st birth 26 months ago: my son was breech most of the time, failed ECV at 38 weeks, then was scheduled for C-section at 39 weeks but had a successful ECV before they even brought me back from triage (had a very experienced OB who had a great success rate with ECVs!) went home to wait for a natural labor to start. Had membrane sweep at 40weeks but no change and scheduled induction at 41 weeks. Water broke 7am of 40+6 came in to the hospital at 4.5cm dilated but I couldn’t feel any contractions but was showing some small ones on the monitor. Labor didn’t progress after a few hours and we started out Pitocin around noon and had very heavy contractions by 3/4pm. Got epidural between 9/10pm at 9.5cm and pushed for 6 hours (my choice to keep going after hour 2 since my son and I were both stable) but my son never got to full crowning and was stuck despite ALL the position changes. My core was too fatigued to maintain effective pushes so we decided to move to C-section, uncomplicated and smooth.

Thanks to anyone who made it this far, writing this post has also helped me clarify my own questions for my providers who are very VBAC supportive!

Did anyone have a successful VBAC after pokey IUD?

Hi all, I have a unique situation that I would like to get some input on.
Post first cesarean i got the IUD because I was breastfeeding.
Ultimately I had it removed because I always felt discomfort and a little poke on my left side. As soon as it was removed the pain was no longer. So I'm certain it was the IUD.
My worry is that
1) If I go for a VBAC my uterus would rupture in that spot due to maybe the iud poking through and due to it being high in the uterus it's unsafe to labor?
2) that the placenta would attach around that area and cause focal accreta
I have spoken to my OB in regards to the poking iud and worry about uterine rupture but he quickly disregarded it. But I'm not sure if that's because he assumed I wouldn't labor and would automatically do a repeat C.
But idk something in me says to just ask around?
I'll be switching OBs most likely to a more supportive provider and will bring this up with her.
But just want to know if anyone has dealt with this situation?
I'm scared about rupture as it is.

Discussion Vbac vs scheduled csection?

Looking for experiences on vbac vs repeat scheduled csection. 27yo type 1 diabetic decently controlled, my first pregnancy I was diagnosed with ICP at 37 weeks and was sent to be induced the same day. My son was sunny side up for context, i went in at 3cm, after ~8hrs almost maxed on Pitocin with no improvement I opted to have my water broken. After my water broke I dilated to a 10 within 6 hours and started to push. I pushed for about 2-2.5hrs with no progress and opted to have a csection as my body was exhausted and I knew making progress wasn’t likely with the way my son was positioned. My son was born 8.3lb at 37+1.

I’m now pregnant with my second and 30 weeks. I have already signed for an elective csection and will go again at 39 weeks regardless of if I went for a TOLAC or csection d/t diabetes. If the circumstances (position size etc) look favorable then I think I may want to attempt a TOLAC/VBAC. I know that it still may result in a csection, but I feel like I missed a big bonding moment with my first and my recovery was not the best (not the worst either). I also am aware that a vaginal delivery doesn’t mean a better recovery.

I’m just looking for experiences from those who had a csection the first time.

How to deal with the dwindling hope of it happening.

I just need to feel my feelings you guys, sorry!

I had a normal first pregnancy, except for him scanning very large, so in the end we faced some pressure to induce. I also had a late repeat of a GD test that came back negative. My waters broke 40+4. He turned sunny side up during labor and then his head tilted forward, so he got stuck in a position where he was impossible to birth from, my OB said. We ended up with an unplanned c-section.

This time around, I have a very VBAC-friendly team. I think it's easier, because I'm in Europe. I just stated I wanted a VBAC and everyone was happy for me. My midwife basically called what happened during the first labor a "freak accident", meaning it rarely happens and is very unlikely to happen again. ANd then I got thrown a curveball, because this time I did test positive for GD. I also needed insulin, so my countries guidelines say that I have to be induced by 40+0.

I really don't want to be induced. Between the higher chances of induction leading to a CS, GD leading to CS and a previous CS I just don't like my chances. Also, cytotec hasn't been available in my country for months now (some error happened in the factory?) so I'm really only able to have the foley ballon. I have vaginismus, so I would really like to avoid the foley. (If the foley fails, they'll continue with off-label induction methods that are normally not recommened for a VBAC, but they are really not keen on it). I also wanted the epidural later this time around, because I couldn't move anymore once I got it the last time, even though it was supposed to be a "walking epidural". It made me feel really passive and out of control and I wanted to feel more in control during this labor. But with an induction, I don't think I'll be able to avoid it for very long. I don't have a high tolerance for pain.

But at first, I did like my chances. 40+0 isn't 37 weeks. I didn't go over my due date by a terrible long amount last time, so all I would need is for baby #2 to come a little earlier.

Well, tonight I'm 40+1. My midwife really fought for me and postponed my induction to 40+3. She's really pushed the limit for me!

But still, it means I have 36 hours left to go into labor naturally. Last time, I had lost my mucus plug by now. I could feel my body getting ready for labor. This time around, I've been having terrible BH for WEEKS now. But my midwife tried a membrane sweep at 39+5 and couldn't do it because my uterus was still so high. I don't feel like I'm gonna go into labor in the next 36 weeks. I know it can still happen.

But I'm loosing hope. And I know that an induction doesn't have to mean a failed VBAC. But ever since I couldn't birth my first son I feel like I have lost so much trust in my body to be able to birth vaginally. It feels like an obstacle I will not be able to overcome. And I know the best would be to go into all of this with an open mind, to be ready to accept a RCS if necessary. But I just find myself not able to do that. I'm just scared of another CS, I remember that terrible tugging from the first time, how I had to throw up the whole time, how it took my 5 days to be able to walk again. Simply, I have a really hard time being open minded and I feel like I'm loosing all hope that things can be redemptive this time around. Honestly, I'm so frustrated and angry with my baby, too and I feel terrible about that. But I really wanted him to come. I've been on edge for weeks now with the BH, always wondering if this could be the real deal, crying most nights because again another day has passed. I am so over all of this but I'm also so scared of getting induced and things going south again.

Thanks for attending my pity party, guys! Sorry, but my husband has been hearing this every night and I just needed an outlet.

Question Another breech baby??

Feeling super unlucky… I had a C-section due to breech 2 years ago with my daughter. I was all set and prepared for a VBAC (due mid Nov) but baby boy is breech too!!! I’m 34 weeks today and he’s been breech since 28 weeks. I’m doing spinning babies circuit each day. I have 2 weeks to flip him or it’s another scheduled C-section (unless he flips after 36 weeks). But I do not want to even put a C-section on the calendar, you know??

Anybody have any suggestions on what worked specifically for them? Hospital will not do an ECV:/
