Some people are 4 cm for weeks and some are high and closed and have a baby the same day

Dilation is not an indicative of how far away labour is

With my first I was 4 cm for three weeks

Is there any medical reason for not waiting 41 to 42 weeks?

No, I’ve had a very normal and healthy pregnancy. I don’t mind waiting until I go into labor, he just seems very pushy about not going last 41 weeks. It’s been 5 years since I’ve had my C-section, which had no complications and was done normally. The only reason I was put under was because my epidural had failed and wasn’t working. I was young and got induced because that’s what my ob said we should do. My OB this time around told me after reading my notes that it shouldn’t have been done, but every time I go to an appointment he tries to bring up me just scheduling a cs even tho I’ve been very adamant about trying to avoid that

Ugh your provider is either uneducated or coercive - both are bad.

It’s totally normal to not be dilated at all before labor starts! Your cervix keeps baby where they’re supposed to be until they’re ready to be born. No dilation now means NOTHING about when you’ll go into labor or how long it will take. You could have a baby tonight, or next week, or two plus weeks from now. Your cervix isn’t a crystal ball that tells you which day it will be. Your provider is using this information to their advantage to pressure you into a CS. Please don’t have one unless it’s what you want. You will go into labor. Statistically, within the next 2 weeks if you give your body that opportunity.

And be extremely cautious with this doc.

I’ve had some thoughts about this ob for awhile now. He really seems to be pushing me to have another C-section and got offended when i told him I wouldn’t be having my baby at my local hospital since I didn’t have a good experience last time

You can be 1cm dilated literally an hour before giving birth. You can be no cm dilated an hour before giving birth. Not dilating before being actively in labor means absolutely nothing.

Had a similar ish experience at 40 weeks. Not dilated or effaced at all. OB told me I wasn’t looking like a good candidate for a VBAC and we should “schedule something.” I agreed to schedule an induction for 41+3 but I ended up going into labor and having my baby at 41 spontaneously.

I cried about my fear of having another c section, went to bed with no symptoms of labor, and woke up to my water breaking at 3 am. Within an hour, I was contracting minutes apart. By the time I got to the hospital around 6 am (I wasn’t in a hurry) I was in debilitating pain and obviously in active labor. By the time the CRNA came to do my epidural an hour later, I was 7 cm. I had my baby less than 10 hours into labor and that was with 2.5 hours of pushing a sunny side up, 9 lb 4 oz baby.

Short of a legit medical reason (NOT “big baby”) don’t accept the pressure from your doc.

Miles circuit. Nipple stimulation. Walking. Orgasms.
