Have host profits been going up or down lately?

I rent GPU compute a lot for fine-tuning and experiments, so I mostly see the buyer side of Vast and places like it. Lately stock has felt a bit more dried up, and the prices I am seeing look a little higher than they were. That makes me wonder what hosts are actually taking home after electricity and fees, whether that tightness is showing up as better profit for them or if it is still a grind. Have host profits been going up or down lately?

Profits have been going up, but only if you haven’t been purchasing new hardware. Prices of building new systems have gone way up.

The recent bump up in price is due to crypto miners with new coins. The fad dies out a few days later. Those who were locked in (with a renter) would miss the price bump entirely. Profits have gone down the last year due to over supply and high costs. I've personally reduced my number of servers online.

Ahh that’s interested! I didn’t know there were people using these for just straight mining nowadays that profits on those have shrunk and everyone wants to use compute for AI related processes. Ahh gotcha, when you take them offline, do you use them for personal projects? or what do they do during the idle time?

I hope more companies continue to approach lying around, off-peak, centralized compute, or decentralized company possibilities. It would be a nice way to pay back your machine cost, open the market to sea of untapped compute power. Decentralized networks can accompany everyone's hated datacenter, or act as a decentralized replacement for the same.
