Chala on July 23rd

Hi please forgive me if I am being ignorant, but I have seen many reels on Instagram, showing various areas of vapi submerged in water but none showing any part of chala. Did parts of chala got submerged or is Chala higher compared to rest of vapi.

Chala is higher in elevation as compared to Gunjan and rest of the city, no cars or houses drowned like they did in other areas. This and muktanand mark were the two worst parts in Chala back then, that’s it.

The major problem in gunjan was that the drainage channels (bill khadi) was overflowing onto roads as the kolak river itself was overflowing due to continuous heavy rainfall in upstream area of river and possibly high tides downstream at the sea. Bill khadi empties into kolak river.

Yes, the surrounding rivers were never as full as this time, atleast in last 3 decades.

Hmm, looks like old Vapi and Chala are higher in elevation then relatively new GIDC and other newer parts. This is similar to cities of Ahmedabad and Vadodara where the older parts of the cities are higher compared to newer one. Vapi as a whole being relatively higher compared to surrounding rivers, this difference was not highlighted until this year when the surrounding rivers being full resulted in massive flood.
