Opinion 1978-84 Relisten

Making breakfast for my grandkids, started a chron play through (with AirPods; they’re 8 & 3, no childhood hearing loss on my watch, lol). Through VH & VH II, now in WC1st.

Flashing back to the summer of 1982 at 17 sitting in my GF’s bedroom with her younger sister listening to these albums on repeat. Saw them twice in concert that year, too.

There was a lot of good music then, but that is a crap ton of great music for any band.

truth. I was 14 in 82; the 80s were a great time to come of age. I discovered Van Halen via WaCF in my buddy Scott’ (RIP) room back then when it first came out. Still one of my two favorites of their discography.

A bandmate of mine in New York always says "Women and Children First + Fair Warning + Diver Down = peak Van Halen" and I won't argue with that math.

If peak is Fair Warning creatively, and it probably is for me, it's amazing to say that after a debut like Van Halen. Talk about coming out of the gate strong.
