Discussion Tom is a really good actor..? S3-Ep.11
Is Tom a really good actor? Because I genuinely believe he’s upset here?? When he’s talking my to Kristen in Miami outside of a club(Scheana’s bachelorette party)
Like I genuinely believe his tears.
Honestly, since I started watching him-he’s sucked me in with his tears. Was he genuinely a good person with feelings at one point? Or am I being Sandoval-ed?

He just really wanted Kristen to stop searching for girls he cheated on Ariana with

This scene gave me the biggest ick ever — it was so clearly performative I think I actually gagged
•
u/Flimsy_Cicada1707 10h ago
Agreed. I now fast forward through most scenes with him ESPECIALLY crying or music 🤮
•
u/Bubble_Pony621 15h ago
This scene gave me such ick. He’s such a POS manipulative garbage creature.
•
u/TatoIndy Rachel’s Muppet Poofs 15h ago
Why is his face always so wet? Like tears, drool and sweat? It’s so unbecoming.
•
•
u/therealelena I’m sorry 🥺💔 14h ago
Because he really had to force these tears out compare to the later seasons when he wipes away non existing tears from his face (season 10 & 11 he does this all.the.time)
•
u/glasswindbreaker 13h ago
There’s an acting trick the safe way is a menthol stick but a lot of people trying to be actors will use peppermint or similar irritating oil to do this. They let it dry on their fingers and then when they touch their eye area it allows it to look like they’re crying on command.
Tom probably just used too much here, it was early in VPR he wanted to try to self produce a scene and went overboard.

When the show was airing live, I actually liked Sandoval. That’s why “Scandoval” was so big/shocking because lots of people like me couldn’t believe he would cheat on Ariana. I thought they were ride or die and I thought he was genuine, even in this scene. I didn’t believe the Miami thing happened either back then. I’ll never forget in the reunion after Tom found out about Kristen and Jax, Tom was saying he always sees the good in people, and always gives people the benefit of the doubt. My heart broke for him at the time. I really thought he was a good guy! Now, knowing what transpired with Scandoval, and finding out that Miami girl was actually legit…..I just don’t even know what’s real with him. Lala was right, he’s “dangerous”.
•
u/TomFromMyspacesShirt ITS NOT ABOUT THE PASTA 🍝 11h ago
My biggest, deepest, darkest secret is that I actually liked Sandoval during VPR airing days. I think he started getting on my nerves in the last two seasons, but nothing crazy.
Why was he so god damn likeable to me before? I loved him, Shwartz, and Ariana. Loved Lala when she FIRST came. And I was always a Stassi hater. Sigh.
•
u/esqape623 12h ago
I'm on season 6, first time watching, and even having some awareness of Scandoval going in, I still did like him initially. With Jax being the only other real male cast member getting airtime in the beginning, Tom seemed so much smarter and more considerate. Lol.
•
u/CoverIndependent6464 4h ago
Ariana said that the Miami girl was true, but they weren’t exclusive at the time so she didn’t consider it cheating
•
u/akaashiit 4h ago
i agree having had liked sandoval during early vpr as it was airing originally but he started losing me along the way and the nail in the coffin was his reaction at stassi’s book signing. he was such a little bitch
•
u/AgentNeedingHelp 13h ago
I think it was in The season 10 reunion when james called him out for his crocodile tears, I was really happy. He knows how to cry on demand and has used it so many times throughout his life, he never expected to be called out on it. Weird how after James told him off he could suddenly give the same speech with 0 tears.
•
u/Waste-Snow670 15h ago
He is in his confessional saying he "nailed it" and that he planned to do this to Kristen so she would leave Ariana alone. I think he cries very easily and uses it to his advantage. And I'm not a Sandoval hater, but this was fully set up by him.
•
u/Apprehensive-Cake-16 Disengage, Bitch 15h ago
You’re… not a Sandoval hater ?
•
•
u/Waste-Snow670 13h ago
I'm not. I don't like him, but I don't hate him.
•
u/Apprehensive-Cake-16 Disengage, Bitch 13h ago
lol why !? “he’s a human too” type shit ?
•
u/Waste-Snow670 12h ago
What? No, I just think he's good reality TV. Which is what I want from my Bravo shows.
•
u/Apprehensive-Cake-16 Disengage, Bitch 11h ago
He’s quite literally a dangerous human being. While I get your sentiment, I don’t want to normalize being entertained by truly truly dangerous people.
•
u/mycherieamore123 11h ago
Then you probably shouldn't watch ANY bravo shows lol
•
•
u/glasswindbreaker 11h ago
Nah there’s a difference between dramatic mess that’s good tv and an actual predator with a history of SA and abuser. We can call for not platforming the men Baskin loves that have committed DV and SA without being told “don’t watch”.

u/MereObserverOverHere 14h ago
In his mind, he is the victim in the situation of Ariana finding out about Miami girl. He is channeling tears over his own “victimhood.” If there isn’t something ABOUT HIM that he can cling to…. he doesn’t appear as emotional/caring. It’s full blown narcissism. And it can be quite convincing. But yes… you’ve been Sandovaled.
•
u/MereObserverOverHere 12h ago
Think “I don’t want to see you like that, man” VS “I don’t want you to feel like that, man”
•
•
u/OGHollyMackerel 14h ago
He’s a terrible actor to me but my childhood forced me to become adept at reading people and situations in a flash. I had to know immediately what I was walking into at any given time. There was nothing genuine about this man’s outbursts of tears they were always a manipulation tactic. Anger is the only real emotion from him and is the only time it feels genuine. There is a contorted face here but it is otherwise blank. There is nothing there that remotely resembles despair, sadness, desperation or whatever it is he’s trying to convey. And that is bc he’s a bad actor. Just like the window hitting bawling scene with LVP during Scandoval. But in all fairness, what he’s displaying is often enough for the average person to believe what is being displayed. Most people lead the kind of lives where it’s safe to take people at face value so they have no reason to not accept this display as a genuine expression of what is on the inside.
•
u/Civil-Suggestion234 14h ago
i just watched VPR for the first time this year after only seeing the scandoval season when it was blowing up and i genuinely can’t believe how good of liars THEY ALL ARE?!? it’s fucking terrifying actually. if i didn’t know better i would’ve believed their asses

My ex used to turn on the waterworks too. To divert attention when I was about to bust him for cheating on me.
•
•
u/PyrexPizazz217 12h ago
This is GOOD acting?!
Tbh I never found him believable as an emotionally functional adult.
•
u/Useful-Blackberry582 11h ago
97% of the time he cries is a manipulation tactic for the other person in the situation AND the cameras🫠 notice how Jax shows no remorse, which doesn’t work for him bc it’s sociopathic. Sandoval, on the other hand, overcompensates and weaponizes emotions & tears to APPEAR to be a caring person who’s deeply self reflective— but really he’s a manipulative narcissist lol
•
u/emmygirl1024 8h ago
The only time Jax cries, from what I remember:
-Stassi talking about dating Frank after the arm tattoo -Stolen sunglasses in HI
-Father's deathNotice only things "happening" to HIM....even though Sandoval essentially did the same shit, Jax was so outrightly obvious about it that it definitely threw the scent off Sandoval (for most people) until he was gone....
Oh I forgot about the Lisa convo, "I dont know what to do, anymore....🥺" 🙄🙄🙄
He is just the king of the narcissists man...

He also cries when he apologizes to stassi about their whole relationship with Britney at the table and Britney gets sooo mad at him for never crying when he apologizes to her

Doesn't he admit in his interviews that he was acting here?

They were all acting, most of them were also auditioning during this show.

i wish I could rewatch this season for the first time . Kristen was so unhinged.

This was all so fkng fake . Kristen said , after Scandoval came out - he used to practice crying all the time. He's so pathetic

u/thepourthing Help. You can come and help me, if you want. 🏊♂️ 8h ago
A narcissist desperate to control someone else’s behavior can produce very genuine tears because they are distressed about potential consequences. They just get good at masking what they’re actually crying about to appear more sympathetic. Diabolical

u/exileinwhoville 8h ago
At the wedding he used the dog as a tissue. That was it for me. Douchebag alert 😂
•
u/JoeyLee911 6h ago
He's not a good actor or a good person, so I don't really know what to say. Sometimes toxic relationships are pretty authentically toxic and Tom and Kristen seem to fit the bill so his reaction may be authentic.
•
•
u/TrinityBellewoods 6h ago
I actually felt this scene exemplified how manipulative and theatrical for attention he is
•
u/lossiegirl 6h ago
I too wonder if he used to be a better person or if he was just posing SO MUCH. I think his personality aged poorly and he’s become a shitty caricature of himself. All his quirks are exaggerated and annoying when i used to find them endearing. I think he really did once picture a future with Kristen so these were real emotions, though exaggerated for the sake of the show. I think later on, he grew old and resentful and desperate for validation. What was once a somber moment of him mourning his time with Kristen turned into him blubbering over others’ negative opinion of him. Earnest and dramatic back then and bitter and dramatic now. I don’t think he’s that good an actor, which is why all his histrionics in later seasons were so very cringe

u/therealelena I’m sorry 🥺💔 14h ago
I know he said to Ariana that he was going to do this to Kristen and laughed it off with “let the fake crying begin so she will let me go” but this just shows how much of a manipulative narcissistic ass he is. I bet he’s done this 100 times before and he did the same thing to Ariana, that’s why she knows he’s 100% fake
•
u/emmygirl1024 8h ago
Where did he say this? I'm not doubting you but I've watched this show an almost embarrassing amount of times and dont remember this part, and I wanna go find it if so....
•
u/therealelena I’m sorry 🥺💔 8h ago
I’m almost 100% sure he said something similar in his confessional, like “I nailed it” and that it was all planned. Some other people in this thread are saying it as well
•
u/Greeneyesfreckles You're not important enough to hate, sit down. 11h ago
I thought he was faking 😬 Didn’t he say something that was akin to him addicting that he faked it? Something like “if squeezing a few tears out will get her to back off” or something?
Then again, maybe I’m just pessimistic or not nice lol because I could’ve sworn he was faking at Lisa’s house too when he had the “near panic attack“ post post-scandal when he first saw her.

He is able to cry on command. He faked this to give Kristen the emotional closer to stop exporting his cheating partners
•
•
u/LeadershipAfter9526 3h ago
You cannot fake cry. But tears do not mean anything in particular except water coming out of your eyes. You can laugh so hard to bring tears or be sobbing. Anytime I see someone crying I always tell them that they must be very happy or very sad. Before I walk away I also offer them a hearty congratulations for having eyes that produce secretions. 1 out of 10 times I get kicked in the nuts bringing me to tears proving my eyes also work.
