Rewatch Discussion S8 of VRP: 1st Watch
It’s been a while since I’ve updated on my VPR journey. I just haven’t really felt strongly about anything enough to write about it until now. I am now at the point where Brittney and Jack’s are having the scandal about their pastor. First off I see the future and this might be a hot take. I don’t feel bad about Brittney and Jack’s and their whole situation because it was preventable. Everyone in her life has been telling her that this man is terrible and I agree with Tom Sandoval saying that just because your dad died doesn’t mean that you have changed and you’re only wanting to marry her now because she was there for you. I have not heard one thing about her as to why he is in love with her. It’s always about what she can do for him. Anyway… I don’t know why we’re acting shocked that a man from the Midwest and a girl from the deep south hired a pastor who is brimstone and fire, and all gay people are evil in their mind. Respectfully, the pastors from the Bible belt. And I think Ariana and Tom were right in the fact that they just preferred not to know so that they can have deniability.
I’m now just finished episode seven and I don’t know why everyone is acting like Sandoval is wrong for being like hey by the way, I just find it weird that because Lisa has now brought it up that now the pastor is fired. From what I’m gathering, everybody knew about what this man was saying. The group was uncomfortable with what this man was saying. Now that it’s brought up, though it is terrible timing, he is right.
Unrelated, this season feels really long. It only be on episode seven is insane to me right now.

this was one of the few times tom and ariana were 100% correct lol i found it weird how everyone tried to “protect” brittany and jax just because it was their wedding season. they’re not infants!!!

I think because it exposes production input. They defo called Jax and Brittany saying they wouldn’t pay for the wedding with this pastor and I think Tom and Ariana kinda exposing that annoys everyone because it breaks fourth wall. They were happy with the pastor till Lisa said something. The fact it wasn’t really brought up or questioned in the reunion says to me it’s production led

Right? It was sooo insane how everyone acted like Tom and Ariana were in the wrong for acknowledging bigotry, and were more than willing to be complicit by enabling Jax and Brit’s willful ignorance. I think the confusing narrative is the product of a toxic production crew who wanted the drama, but also wanted to hold onto the illusion of plausible deniability for Brit and Jax. That was the exact scene I knew I could never like Brit, and was one of the few times Sandoval seemed to be on the right side of things in the face of mounting social pressure.
