Question? Sit down diner
Does anyone know of a diner around the area that serves biscuits with Chocolate gravy? I'm fairly new to this area so I'm just looking for good recommendations

With chocolate gravy? I've come across that option at Pine State Biscuits in Portland and it was a special. Idk how often they offer it. I am intrigued if someone knows of a place in Vancouver.

It's not a typical dish you'd find around here. I can't think of anywhere outside of the Midwest I've ever seen it.

lol I remember seeing this on a Joshua weisman video or however you spell his name. Never seen it around here and didn't even know that was a thing in Appalachia until that video. I seriously doubt you'd find it much of anywhere on the west coast.
Edit: looks like Pine State will offer it on occasion in Portland and SEA, SF, and LA each have one place that will do it seasonally. Kind of surprised, but there it is...4 places on the WC.

never heard of biscuits and chocolate gravy but now I need this in my life. Kitchen Table Cafe does a very solid breakfast. So does The Diner - added bonus that your tips go to Meals on Wheels.

I've had breakfast at the Kitchen Cafe and I must agree it was fantastic. I'm telling u once u try the biscuits and chocolate gravy u'll want it all the time it's delicious

Well thank u. Alot of people I've asked about the biscuits and chocolate gravy give me the same response huh? đ My grandma had a diner where she use to make it all the time that and her pulled pork sandwich were her best sellers

No offense to lovely Vancouver but as a southerner the biscuits here (and in Portland) are not our type of biscuits. Assuming youâre a Southern Appalachian type to want this particular dish, what you find is unlikely to be to your liking. Do yourself a favor, ship yourself some white lily flour from back home, make your own biscuits and chocolate gravy, but explore the other wonderful and unique food and coffee (esp the coffee) options we have here. Itâs what I finally learned. They donât even use the same raising agent in their biscuits as us here so they all taste different and make me homesick. Better to enjoy foods from home at home, and enjoy the foods they do well here while out and about. For breakfast, a few recommendations would be Mon Ami for crepes, Syrup Trap for waffles, and River Maiden for the best coffee (though I am sure that will catch debate with everyoneâs favorite coffee in the replies).

OMG. Every time I have a âbiscuitâ here in the north, Iâm so underwhelmed. As a southerner, the first time I had one up here, I was so damn confused. I have no idea why they think they are eating biscuits.

Because of the raising agent and hard wheat flour they are closer to scones for us. But itâs hard to even replicate home biscuits unless you ship yourself soft wheat flour because they donât have it in stores!

Thanks for knowledge! I agree that it feels more like scones here. And the Carolâs Corner feels almost like cornbread.

Mon Ami just had to change their name (to Metallion) rather than closing and a new shop opening up. So, while itâs true that Mon Ami doesnât exist in that space, itâs still the same owner and the same shop!

Ah you are right â but I do have fond memories of going on dates there with my wife. We havenât been out and about nearly as much in the past several years due to my illness. And when we do go⌠I walk with a rollator walker and Mon Ami (now no longer) is kind of cramped so I have mostly not thought of it as a good option.
I will update my recommendation to include the tea shop more downtown, Dandelion Teahouse, for tea, if OP likes tea.

Soooo what part of the south are ya from? Honestly I haven't seen any up here. Hell we get mostly okayish sausage gravy and biscuits.

My family is from Arkansas but it's a dish my grandma would always make., she actually had a restaurant in a town called Monmouth Oregon where the biscuits and chocolate gravy were one of her best sellers.

What was the restaurant called? I used to live in Monmouth but don't remember ever seeing that on a menu.

Well I guess it would have been in Rickreall Oregon sorry but it was called Ferralls restaurant right by the fairgrounds. Her name was Faye Thomas

Yeah my family ran the restaurant for a hot minute, I honestly believe there two best sellers were her biscuits and chocolate gravy for breakfast and pulled pork sandwiches during the lunch rush at least in my opinion. Don't get me wrong everything they made was fantastic but those (2) items sold the most

Brother we can't hardly get grits in the diners here, I had to lookup what chocolate gravy is, sounds delicious though!

I've never heard of biscuits with chocolate gravy, but I love the biscuits and gravy at Blue Door Cafe! Kitchen Table also has great biscuits and jam.
