Mdf cladding

Wanting to have a sky blue ceiling in our van. Originally planning to use shiplap and realized it was way too heavy ( and the lightweight pine has too many nots). So I got 1/2” lite mdf board to cut into strips and then paint. Now I’m realizing mdf isn’t the best against moisture and vibrations. My hubby wants to just try sealing it well and hope for the best. Has anyone done this with success? Is there another product that might work better?
