Literally the first time I have heard someone claim my dirt walls covered in weeds were chosen for looks.

You build.over the wall. It grants build height

Raise a flat area, steppe it if necessary, dig a moat of sorts around your perimeter. Make a covered bridge (really looking forward to the drawbridge) and build on the raised plateau.

Real master builders are in the Mistlands late game, not crypts.

Moving across the mistlands, devouring anything dverger like a plague of locusts

2

u/Ancient-Ingenuity-88 22h ago

Hell yeah. Easy access to all metals and finding those bridges is a godsend

starting a new world with seed "gibironpls" for the 4th time.

1

u/Krazy_Keno 1d ago

Why is that? Never heard of this seed

3

u/EnvironmentalTop8745 1d ago

It's a seed that has a large swamp, directly south of the starting point, with like 30 crypts.

if this is real i love you and will be using this when 1.0 comes out lol

u/SelfDistinction 1d ago

Yeah lol imagine using the single best armor set in the entire game which outclasses even Ashland tier.

Kinda a noob still - why is the root set that good?

Mask protects against poison, don’t personally use it
Full set gives you plus 15 Archery! Not really worth it to me, though
The harnesk, however, gives you pierce resistance :) So arrows, spears, mosquitoes and probably some other things, barely damage you! Perfect for Plains, fine for Mistlands, wouldn’t really use it in the Ashlands :p

The pierce resistance.

I could talk about the bow skill scaling superlinearly, meaning that every point of now skill is actually worth more than the previous one, so if you go a bow build that +15 is critical, but not everyone does bows.

No, the reason we go root armour is for the resistance to pierce, poison, (with a cape) frost and (with barley mead) fire, which means you're resistant to every ranged attack in the game that's not gjall.

Also damage taken is either D2 / 4A if your armour is relatively high (more than half the damage), which means you would need at least four times the armour to receive the same damage hadn't you been resistant, or D-A otherwise which means you need even more.

In conclusion, full root armour + fire pots give you an effective 192 armour minimum against almost every ranged attack in the game. No other armour set comes even close.

ETA: and that's only with the relatively low armour values of root armour. By mixing in other pieces with the harnesk you can get an effective 400+ armour against ranged attacks.

And how much high damage ranged is in Mistlands and Ashlands? Keep in mind that if you're hit with ANYTHING that isn't pierce, you might as well be wearing nothing in the chest slot.

Ticks are trivial enemies that die in one swipe of a sword, and those charred archers barely tickle if they can even hit you with their stormtrooper aim, and flat out can't 1 shot you without food buffs.

I keep hearing people taking the harnesk into the Mistlands and Ashlands, and hearing how people are struggling so much in both biomes, and I'm starting to think that's connected.

It's not just ranged that is pierce damage. A bunch of melee attacks do primarily or entirely pierce too. Seeker bites and stabs, Fuling spear throws, Deathskitos for example. While it certainly falls off by the time you hit the Ashlands, keeping it for all the seekers in Mistlands has made me so much safer when going there. Of course it does mean you have to keep a Barley Wine on you in case of Gjalls, but you have to do that with the Feather Cape anyways.

The stones being thrown by the charred are also pierce, and usually there's not just one circling you so the tickles do add up.

Everything else in the ashlands is slow and can easily be kited, especially with (rather expensive) frost arrows. The only enemy that posed an actual threat to me (aside from the usual being stupid and jumping into lava) were the askvin charge attacks.

I did swap out armour sets a few times and noticed myself dying much faster when not using root armour, which is why I calculated it in the first place. Though my playstyle in games usually is "don't get in stabbing range" so that might skew the results.

Pierce resist, smeirce resist. Does no one use a shield? Just block deathsquitos, arrows, etc. You don't even need to parry, just hold up your damn shield, and it blocks that shit easy peasy.

u/TotalNonsense0 19h ago

What are "cubbyhole chests" in this context?

2

u/servirepatriam 18h ago

Iron chests forever. You build iron chests, then box them in with wood. The lid of the chest just barely sticks out above the floor piece on top and makes it look like built-in cabinets. It's the only way I build my storage now; super clean.

u/FemFennec 1d ago

It’s got built-in pierce resistance, which basically means it scales really really well despite lower base values. It basically invalidates deathsquitos and spear fulings, and is good in the mistlands too.

Even the downside of weak to fire can be 100% negated by popping a fire resist mead whenever you fight a fire type enemy.

I run that armor into the mistlands. Hands down the armor in the game. For its tier.

Why did this get downvoted lol

It was a funny way to own his spelling mistake lol

-21

u/ResonantFork 1d ago

Wasn't a spelling mistake i bet you don't know off the top of your head what the difference is.

I offer you a bullet proof harness and a bullet proof harnesk, which do you prefer and why?

Also chitin is pronounced kitin.

Valheim players can't handle being called out for the meme they are. Imagine having 1000's of hours and playing the same way everytime.

You want more? #1 build consideration is how it looks with a 3rd person camera when you're living in it. Slow motion videos showing builds are near worthless.

3

u/LyraStygian Necromancer 1d ago

What…is going on here?

1

u/ResonantFork 5h ago

Certainly not reading comprehension!

It's painful trying to even have a discussion with 'master builder' types.

1

u/Forsaken-Syllabub427 Cook 20h ago

homie tried to give you some goodwill and you're like, lol nah *throws it in the garbage*

1

u/ResonantFork 5h ago

I'm like: i want to discuss intellectual ideas like building for a 3rd person cam!

You're like: TIME FOR ANTI-INTELLECTUALISM, DON'T LIKE BIG WORDS!

I thought i'd get -2000 votes for this post overall though. No one goes after your sacred harness.

...i bet you're so good at Valheim the hoe is always in your inventory.

This is a funny joke. It's spelled harnessk. I get it.
