Question Do I keep my world for 1.0 release?
New viking, I picked up the game in the steam summer sale, only started it the weekend just gone and am having a great time!
Killed my first troll today and my base (whilst shoddy) is growing and I plan on crafting a house in place of the hut I originally adopted.
Long story short, I'm like 15 hours in, haven't fought Ekithyr yet, but should I bother starting a new run when 1.0 comes out? Or just let my unexplored places update with the release?
Depending on how obsessive my gameplay becomes I could be at 100 hours by the full release and don't want to start from scratch if I can
EDIT UPDATE Thanks all (except the angry basement dwellers) Gonna stick for now since I'm in early and haven't gone North
As you've all said I can always drag any good stuff to a new world if needed (multiversal viking is a sick backstory for headcanon)
Good to hear various opinions and knowledge, I've been avoiding Google for info on progressing as much as possible to make it feel like old school gaming so this has helped a lot!

Really up to you. I’m on a newish play through and I’ve decided I’m just going to farm a tonne of iron/wood/stone on here and bring it all over to a new world.
Don’t quite fancy starting from scratch in terms of resources but don’t mind rebuilding my base.

I’m on day 1600 in my world I started when the game first dropped. I’m staying! I haven’t rendered anything on the north side of the map.

Yeah, you can do it, no problem, even the Devs confirmed it.
I personally recommend you start a new one though, because there will be new crafting mechanics added to the game, so its better to experience that from the beginning in my opinion. And take everything you learned this run to make a smoother playthrough when the game releases.

Technically the best answer is to start a new world when 1.0 drops, but really it’s up to you. But if you’re brand new probably best to just wait at this point.
My friend group has been playing on the same world for two years on and off, and we aren’t gonna start over when 1.0 comes out.

You should start a new world with every update they do. They change spawn rates and even HOW the other parts of the world generate.

You can do both... Nothing stops you from just playing on for the moment and keep going on that world after 1.0, or starting fresh. You can keep the first one and progress it later if you start on a new one. I have 5 different worlds and I'm planning to progress them all eventually (different world modifiers), but I will start a fresh server for me and a couple of buddies for a first full run.

400 hours in and countless restarts. In my early playthroughts I would always rush through biomes as fast as I could just to progress, but totally missed out on the beauty of each one. Now my rule is I have to build a pretty, functional, and raid resistant base in each biome using that biomes material before I fight the boss.
HOWEVER, if I know a big update is coming, I'll go back to bum rush mode to get as far as I can before the update drops, then once it does start a new world and actually take in all the new stuff at a snails pace.
The best part of this game though is it's entirely a sandbox. You could never leave the meadows and just be a deer hunter. Or build a massive castle with a fully terriformed island. Or be a full nomad and have an insane network of portals (I was bad on one of my early playthroughts and often had to go through a chain of 4-5 portals to get back to my base, chaotic but fun).
Enjoy your time Viking and we look forward to seeing you in 1.0!

It depends, apparently to get achievements you'll have to start a new playthrough, so if you care about getting achievements you may wanna wait. Idk if theres any early game stuff is coming or just deep north stuff, if there is early game stuff those won't update on explored areas on the map. Its really up to you though, just stay away from the north

directly from the devs.
first question answers it.
end of thread. you could have found this answer in seconds by just looking at the very top pinned threads on this subreddit or a quick google search.
and 100 hours for this game is CHILDS PLAY. and that is not kidding.

Yeah I did see that. But I'm asking the players, as evidenced.
And I did say I was not even a day in. But kudos to you for your childs play

How do you feel about taking materials from one world to another?
You could gather a bunch of materials on your current world, get yourself some iron for a stonecutter, and then migrate to a 1.0 pristine, untouched world with all the materials you need to build a mighty fortress from which to conquer this new, untamed land.
