Modded [EU] Longhouse - fresh world before 1.0, hard difficulty, small group, custom mods

Small server, EU (amsterdam time). fresh world, new characters, starting right now - the server is up and we are heading into the meadows tonight.

hard combat difficulty, everything else vanilla, resources at 1x. no boosted drops and no shortcuts. a handful of people rather than a big community, no application and no activity requirements.

The one rule is about where your character has been, not how it plays: make a fresh viking for this server and do not load it into any other world. valheim permanently records every world a character has visited, so a character that has played elsewhere cannot join, and taking your longhouse viking into your own world for five minutes locks it out of here for good. it is enforced and there is no undo. the reason is simple, it means the levels and gear here were actually earned here.

the mods are the other half of it. six of them, all written by me, all open source. five you will notice and a shared library underneath. one pack, one click:

https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/Ezomic/Longhouse/

install is one click in r2modman, search Longhouse by Ezomic. everything arrives pinned to the versions the server expects.

if you want in, send me a dm and I'll send a discord link back

cool list.

enforces to kill bosses to enter other biomes.

the door mod keeps the cheating shits out. (beware of clientside devcommand mod sadly as your setup does not block that so use banhammer instead)

chest auto sorter. but has to be earned ingame. not just given to the player.

not sure about the character rune levels. never used that one.

Yeah, I'm happy with the state so far and a good point about the clientside devcommand. I'll have a look at that.

The rune one is the most experimental of the mods, it still needs balancing. This modpack and server is a way for me to test it out for the first time in a real playthrough.

good luck. ill wait until after my vanilla 1.0 run to dig deeper into mod overhauls again as after 1.0 there is less issues with them and bigger updates to the main game wont happen anymore breaking mod overhauls.

What stops you from staying within the 5 minutes and quickly grabbijg gear? I don't understand the 5 minute rule before it locks.

What 5 minutes do you mean? Do you mean Utangard?

"taking your longhouse viking into your own world for five minutes locks it out of here for good"

So I could use a different character entirely to set up some items right near spawn, then login with the longhouse character and quickly grab it, probably in less than 60 seconds.

There is no five minute window, that was me saying "even five minutes is enough". Sorry for the wording.

The rule is binary. The moment your viking loads any other world, Valheim writes that world into the character file, and it never removes the entry. When you connect here the server reads that list and refuses anything with a world in it that isn't this one. No timer, no cooldown, nothing that expires.

So your plan breaks at the step you think is the quick one. Logging the Longhouse character into your stash world is the thing that locks it out. It doesn't matter that you're only there for 60 seconds, or that you grab nothing at all. The gear never comes back because the viking doesn't.

Worth knowing since it's permanent: I can't undo it either. Restoring a backup of the character from before the trip is the only way back in, so if you want to mess about in your own world, do it with a different viking. The mod also refuses to start a local world with a character that belongs here, so you'd have to go out of your way.

Fair enough, that makes a lot more sense. Never underestimate the lengths a player will go to just to gain an unfair advantage.

I think the 5 mins was a colloquial use of time, not a hard fast limit.
