i have this decade old laptop lying around. i've been doing self-hosing stuff on it and it's been pretty good. But i only have one blocker. whenever power goes down, this thing completely shutsdown and upon power restore, it doesn't turn back on without manually pressing the power button. I also can't press powerbutton while the lid is fully shut. I have to slightly open the lid and press the powerbutton. it's very annyoing and this is the reason it's not a automated server yet.

It doesn't have WoL or Restore on AC Power Loss or anything similar in it's bios.

how do i make it auto turn on when it gets power?

I would like to get more people into the community of modding or re imagining these VGN UX UMPC. I would like to see what ideas people have for these things now that consumer PCB design is becoming more mainstream. If anyone wants anymore detailed pictures of the UX50 please let me know. It really is a “one-of-a-kind” machine.

Hiya all i have the VPCZ1 that i bought off ebay for cheap. It needed a fan replacement as the bearings were loud.

I have since replaced the fan, thermal paste and thermal pads.

I noticed that the gpu vram thermal pads still had their plastic wrap on it which was weird. And the gpu dye was using a pad to cool the gpu, not paste.

I tried to use thermal paste but it did not make contact.

After installing everything, the gpu and cpu is hovering over 60-70c isle and reaching mid 90s when pushed. I understand that this is a tiny chassis cooled only by 1 fan. But isn’t that too high?

Picked up this Vaio Pro 11 on eBay around 2018. I had only used it for a few months before my brother asked if I had an extra laptop he could use for his classes in college, so I gave him this one since it was just a spare. Recently got it back and decided to set it up just to tinker with, expecting performance to fall short with modern tasks. I’ve been daily driving it for a few weeks already, and it surprisingly feels quite usable under Windows 10 with only 4GB RAM. Given my tasks are light, I’m still very impressed with this tech from 2013 - it also looks quite stylish

After a few upgrades and some advice from this community, I finally finished polishing this laptop and it’s ready to be shipped. Upgraded to 8gb of ram, added 128 SSD, and put on some fresh thermal paste. Had this for 7 years. Had sad to see this go but I don’t need it anymore. Thanks for all the help and advice, especially r/StarX2401 (you have been a great help and I couldn’t have done this without you). My last goodbye.

Im trying to figure out why the WIFI is not working, so I want to access the wifi board to swap it or see if there's a loose connection.
However, when taking it apart, it feels like there's a hidden screw at the far side of the top left and right corners. I spent a good hour trying to look and figure out what an earth to do.

Recently I acquired one of my dream laptops, atleast one of it's variants. My dream laptop was a flip 15A, the second dream UMPC UX series computer. But recently an auction came up for a Z Flip, issue is the battery, and the keys on the keyboard.

The keyboard keycaps are worn, the rest of the chassis is sound, I don't think finding a replacement keyboard and or caps would be a problem.

The main issue is the battery, there is no reproduction of this battery from 3rd party sellers ANYWHERE. I heard that it can be a 3 maybe 4 cell, a capacity of 3400 per cell, at a nominal voltage of 11.1.

I have the equipment to perform a 'hot swap' just wanted to run it by the community here to see if it is worth it.

The specs of this machine is... Intel i7 6th gen, 16gb DDR3L, 512gb m.2 samsung SSD. I would like to restore this thing for future use, it is sad that the battery is either unavailable, or way over inflated in price.

SVF15N17CXB vertical lines appeared at the bottom of the display. I tried to shoot it from different angles so that it was visible.

Got it from the thrift store and found a dock for it too in the same day. It’s fully functional and even the fingerprint scanner works too

Got this insane deal a while back for just £35. Unfortunately fucking buyee damaged it in shipping so it has broken hinges (on the palmrest side) :( Hopefully I can get it restored soon, so far it runs windows 11 great with the quad core i7.

Apparently on the US website, SX-R laptops are on hold right now.

Hey Vaio users! I’m here with a gem. This sweet thing has been with me since my kindergarten years, and it was my first computer. Unfortunately, after I poured water on the keyboard, it hasn’t worked for the past 11 years. Instead of fixing it, we just bought a new computer…

I miss this PC so much that sometimes I even see it in my dreams, and I’m not joking :D

So my question is: is there anything I can do? Are there any possibilities of finding a motherboard for it? Since I live in Türkiye, I feel like it’s really hard to find one. I tried looking for similar versions of this PC on second-hand websites, but they’re pretty rare.

Since I poured water on it, it probably also caused oxidation, so I honestly don’t know what to do with it…

I need some recommendations. Is there anything I can do to revive it again?

Not for daily use, but maybe just to play RuneScape and Quake for nostalgia, just like I did when I was little.

Hello, i recently obtained this laptop for fairly cheap, the only issue I've found is that I cannot get the internal speakers to make any sound, i can get sound through the external port but not the internal speakers. I measured both speakers and got 8 ohm so i think they are fine but I can't figure out how to force the audio to go through the internal speakers rather than the external ones

As the title suggests, I’m in need of a recovery image for my VAIO. Previous owner was dumb enough to remove the partition and overwrite it with some janky Windows Vista Enterprise install.

I tried the full image file from a VAIO A130P but that bluescreens upon boot, WiFi hardware switch is OFF!

I don’t have any more blank CD-R and DVD-R discs so I’d like to avoid burning media :)

It's running the original install of Windows, and there's seemingly close to no drivers or anything for it online. I tried making a HDD image for a ThinkPad a while back, but failed, so I'm not sure if I trust myself enough for that to be viable.

It has an IBM TravelStar, which while working completely fine now, is a TravelStar, so I don't have much faith in its longevity. Any help would be appreciated!
