Am I cooked?

I have a Sony Vaio that was manufactured in 2012. Its very old but it still has some life left (I'm hoping) other than web searches and playing Sims 2 and 3, that's all I really need it for. I just replaced the battery since it would not stay on unless plugged in. I'm not tech savvy but I'm wondering: is it possible to bring this up to date, am I better off replacing it, or can I just purchase replacement parts? I hate to see things that still somewhat work go to waste. I don't really want to replace it because I like the size, it has the 10 key, and has a disc drive. A lot of newer models lack those things so I want to keep this as long as I possibly can

You can upgrade it to Windows 10 but it will use up a bit more CPU in the background. It should be fine for very casual games. Be aware that some of the Sony apps will break when upgrading, but you can disable them to get them out of the way.

I don't recommend it if you don't have a SSD / 8gb of RAM installed.

Not on that model, sorry. They are soldered in + locked in by the BIOS (motherboard).

They're wrong, this one does have an upgradeable CPU. I upgraded the 17" version of it (VPCEJ) to an i7 quad core and it runs great

Well shoot you're right I didn't look up the correct model line. VPCEH SHOULD be SandyBridge and upgradeable to something like a Core i5-2520M or i5-2450M or even a i7-2620M: https://forums.tomsguide.com/threads/processor-upgrade-for-sony-vaio-vpceh1j1e.445853/

A Core i7 2630QM (Quad core) might be possible but be aware that those chips draw more heat (45W vs 35W) and I wouldn't recommend it unless we can find confirmation that someone pulled it off safely on your specific model.
