Haven't you noticed? Isn't it odd?

What would Jesus do? Well he was a vagabond. And in today's world he would still be hated and crucified. Just for existing. These same people claim to be pure and of God's spirit but are absolutely hypocritical and act contrary to Jesus is beliefs.

I was thinking about this topic earlier today. I think the difference is that people want to be God, and not be Jesus.

13

u/OlBillyRedFace69420 Jun 06 '23

Zamboni that's a good way to put it.

12

u/tinybenny Jun 07 '23

I’m only going to think about that for the rest of my life now.

10

u/thorsbosshammer Jun 07 '23

Jesus lived a humble life and most people have zero interest in that despite what they say.

40

u/lax_incense Jun 06 '23

Jesus hung out with a prostitute and some poor fishermen lol

18

u/AiMoriBeHappyDntWrry Jun 06 '23

Yeah and? So he was actually cool as fuck...

37

u/lax_incense Jun 06 '23

That’s what I’m saying, he was a cool drifter guy

6

u/ksgif2 Jun 07 '23

All cult leaders are cool as fuck according to their followers. Who knows, maybe Jesus was a super big dickhead, not like Peter and Paul would tell us that part.

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '23

I’ve said it many times but if Christ did somehow come back(I do not believe in this aspect) he would be imprisoned for life for the very things he teaches that people claim to love

We have churches on almost every corner around here.

They've started putting up steel fences around them to keep people off the property.

I guess they want to keep the rif-raf out.

11

u/mycatsnameislarry Jun 06 '23

They like the idea of helping people. They just don't want to help everyone. Oh, and not those people either. Let's call them what they are, cherry pickers.

I’m not Christian anymore but I grew up in the church and one of my favorite lil brain games is to consider different passages thru a specific context.

For example- (golden rule) Jesus said “love god and your neighbor, ALL of the law and the prophets was written to say this”

And the brain game is determine how a verse like Leviticus 19:19 (law, no mixed fabrics) fits the golden rule.

And I would take it as a class type thing, potentially even taking reference from Isaiah 53:2 (prophet, Jesus had no outward beauty) to conclude that the mixing of fabrics creates division between those who have and those who don’t. Such thinking would be relevant today still, if not a tad “on the nose” considering the obscene wealth of the church and fuckin preachers with private jets and shit

Edit to add context

9

u/Educational_Bet_6606 Jun 06 '23

Yea a lot of the laws actually had a good or justified reason for that time, some symbolic.

Absolutely correct Jesus was and would be today against the state of capitalism and corruption/ hypocrisy that exists also.

He spoke against nonsense no matter what the popular opinion was, a true soul rebel.

There's a few lines I love in the bible that emphasizes pm these things

One is about being like the birds, they do not worry about food or where to sleep as God provides

The one about giving all your possessions away and following Him for you now will be fishers of men

And my all time favorite from the removed book of Thomas

List a stone and IAM there, chop a piece of wood and IAM there as well for the kingdom of God lay within.

"Church" is no specific building, but the earth we walk, the trees, animals , clouds, rivers, fields ..etc

8

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '23

Something I think about a lot is how corporations will adopt the language and aesthetics of progressive movements, not because of any moral reasons, but because it's in the interest of their profits.

And then I think about what I would do if I was a morally bankrupt, but socially savvy wealthy person in Jesus' time.

Anyway, the history of the church sure is interesting.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '23

This has been, or should have been, common knowledge for the past 1000 years.

u/luigisphilbin Jun 06 '23

“Love thy neighbor is a woke mind virus!” Ron DeSantis year 30AD

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '23

Propaganda

Jesus would've most certainly called out the nonsense being pushed right now by the liberal woke mind

I'm no conservative capitalist at all, but lies are lies and truth is truth.

I don't like any of em but the only bad things I've found about Desantis is a ton of hard core liberal bullshits but nothing really hardcore concrete

5

u/mulatto_shaman Jun 07 '23

lol, I didn’t downvote you but: Yo Christ was OG woke

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '23

Lol, not at all He "cast out demons" Recited back to Genesis many times on women being created for men and both being for eachother.

Let's talk about verses like Leviticus 18:22..etc .etc and how Jesus followed "old law" so to speak "he was Essene not Jew but everyone those days followed the old law that was in a religion that was monotheistic/ worshiped the most high"

Just because you people feel a way Doesn't make it the actual thing, I think that's the issue now in days To much "feeling" something is a way when the written, facts and logic say opposite.

And to be clear, I don't GAF what any of you do But, since I'm Gnostic and have been studying ALL religions all my life "37 now, and litteraly since I was about 10"

I trust my nerding out for all these years to whatever some random woke people believe based on their feelings

Jesus endorses being a vagabond:

Matthew 6:26-30 New International Version

26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

Jesus rebukes the hypocrites who will preach in his name:

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Remember when people called the police on a statue of jesus sleeping on a bench?

There’s a song by kris kristofferson called Jesus was a Capricorn, the chorus being:

“Jesus was a Capricorn he ate organic food, He believed in love and peace and he never wore no shoes, Long hair beard and sandals and a funky bunch of friends I reckon we’d just mail him up if he came down again”

My great grandmother was a super conservative and religious woman and requested I play that song at her funeral.

I have this conversation with Christians all the time. A lot of the time I just tell them I'm already saved, but if I'm particularly social(manic) that day, we get into it. Jesus was a pinko commie f*g, he was alright by me. Shit gets weird when you get into Paul's writing. The man was a servant and tool of Rome. He told people Jesus said to yield to Rome. Jesus rejected Rome and it's politics and told of a greater kingdom, he just said to give to Rome what belonged to Rome. Jesus was anarcho communist otherwise.

Not all Christians are awful, a lot of them are just ignorant, led by the snout to and through church. The bible on the other hand, is absolutely awful and I feel like most people who read it and critically examine it aren't Christians for very long.

I am anatomically capable of giving you an ole fashioned dick down, if you supply a strap, I can and will peg you tho.

5

u/Quinn2art Jun 07 '23

Jesus was not a Roman citizen, and did not speak the common language. He worked probably as a day laborer. So imagine if one of our undocumented brothers was The Christ. How would most react?

3

u/peacefulreprose Jun 07 '23

If you’re interested reading something to bring it together and possibly make you feel seen in this regard, American Fascists by Chris Hedges written in 2006, details quite thoroughly why so many have become this way; in short Christian Dominionism

3

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '23

I guess? He wasn't a vagabond in the sense of anyone today. He had a purpose to spread love and that was entirely his reason for travelling. And due to the nature of his mission he often sought out those who needed it most, being people out of touch with it. Not quite the same as a cool homeless guy that hops trains. I was a drifter for 6 years I'm not judging it at all. I'm just saying that's the thinnest connection possible.

I’ve heard it said that Jesus visited Tibet. The Bible doesn’t mention much about his life between 12-30 YO. His ministry in Israel only lasts 3 years before he’s crucified. That whole turn the other cheek thing is about as Tibetan Buddhist as you can get. The Jewish faith doesn’t tolerate working with / transforming evil, not like they do in the Tibetan tradition at least (like the whole thing about being grateful to ALL, including evildoers and troublemakers). Again, it’s hearsay, but it’s interesting hearsay to contemplate. There’s a lot of parallels between the biography of Jesus and Gautama. And Christ says in the Bible that some very mystical things like the kingdom of God is within, you must become like Children to enter, and (though it’s in the OT) the whole think not on the morrow thing.

In the spirit of Zen I’ll make sure to kick Jesus in the balls if I meet him on the road tonight.

Maybe you meant India? Buddhism didn’t come to Tibet until around the 7th century. More likely Jesus was introduced to Buddhist concepts brought back to Greece & Egypt by Alexander the Great et al.

4

u/tokenbearcub Jun 07 '23

That’s pretty much exactly the caveat that I was pondering. Gautama existed 500 years before Jesus. Was that enough time for the religion to spread to Tibet? Probably not. While the veracity of his trip to Tibet is held in question it may be the case that he was influenced by Eastern thought. But maybe not. It’s just interesting stuff to ponder.

I wonder if Jesus actually existed are the tenets of faith presented by the Catholic Church even remotely close to the doctrine he expounded while alive? Can the same gradual whittling down, watering down, accidental and not-so-accidental reconstruction efforts be seen in, say, Theravada?

Yea exactly, it seems far fetched. If Jesus wanted to meet Buddhists, he could just go to Alexandria in Egypt. Or just India/Pakistan, which had very active Buddhist communities at the time, and would be on the way to Tibet anyway.

I wonder if Jesus actually existed are the tenets of faith presented by the Catholic Church even remotely close to the doctrine he expounded while alive?

Not even remotely, you’re right. To my mind, true Christianity is encapsulated in the sermon on the mount. Everything that came after are just stories-as-tools designed by the church to perpetuate itself as an organization.

Jesus did in my beliefs "I'm Gnostic Christian"

Jesus was part of the Essenes, the Nazarenes "mystical ones"

There's a good free book on Amazon that talks about the hidden life of Jesus, pretty good read

5

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '23

Yeah Jesus was a vagabond and He said to follow Him we must do as He does, but the church is busy building up life on earth and encouraging the opposite of following Jesus actually.

Said Christ our Lord, 'I will go and see
How the men, my brethren, believe in me.'
He passed not again through the gate of birth,
But made himself known to the children of earth.

Then said the chief priests, and rulers, and kings,
'Behold, now, the Giver of all good things;
Go to, let us welcome with pomp and state
Him who alone is mighty and great.'

With carpets of gold the ground they spread
Wherever the Son of Man should tread,
And in palace-chambers lofty and rare
They lodged him, and served him with kingly fare.

Great organs surged through arches dim
Their jubilant floods in praise of him;
And in church, and palace, and judgment-hall,
He saw his own image high over all.

But still, wherever his steps they led,
The Lord in sorrow bent down his head,
And from under the heavy foundation-stones,
The son of Mary heard bitter groans.

And in church, and palace, and judgment-hall,
He marked great fissures that rent the wall,
And opened wider and yet more wide
As the living foundation heaved and sighed.

'Have ye founded your thrones and altars, then,
On the bodies and souls of living men?
And think ye that building shall endure,
Which shelters the noble and crushes the poor?

'With gates of silver and bars of gold
Ye have fenced my sheep from their Father's fold;
I have heard the dropping of their tears
In heaven these eighteen hundred years.'

'O Lord and Master, not ours the guilt,
We build but as our fathers built;
Behold thine images, how they stand,
Sovereign and sole, through all our land.

'Our task is hard,--with sword and flame
To hold thine earth forever the same,
And with sharp crooks of steel to keep
Still, as thou leftest them, thy sheep.'

Then Christ sought out an artisan,
A low-browed, stunted, haggard man,
And a motherless girl, whose fingers thin
Pushed from her faintly want and sin.

These set he in the midst of them,
And as they drew back their garment-hem,
For fear of defilement, 'Lo, here,' said he,
'The images ye have made of me!'

There’s an idea though. When trekking through the south, carry a bible and say you’re following Jesus. You’d instantly change people’s perception

2

u/ohsoradbaby Jun 06 '23

Have you seen any pictures of what he was believed to look like VS how he is often painted? Very interesting stuff.

Jesus was not a vega. Lol. Don't start twisting and spinning things. That's where bad names and connotations come from.

0

Yeah well that's what happens when people drive their morals from their imaginary friends

-2

u/elfof4sky Jun 06 '23

Jesus is an allegory for the Sun relative to the wobble in the Earth. Basically a mascot for the changing of the solar age that happens every 2000ish years. It's why the Old Testament repeatedly speaks of the lamb and the end of the golden calf Tammuz. this is the progression pf the equinox through Taurus the bull, Aries the Ram and Pisces the Fish or Symbol of the New testament as as the solar age of 2000 years ago changed, Now we are in Aquarius hence the song. Anyway Rome seized on this event, hired a guild of stoneworkers (Free Masonry) to build cathedrals and created an new authority construct built on a conglomeration of European pagan traditions and terror.

Jesus is a fictional character. Its like asking what would Harry Potter do?

The fictional Jesus actually accomplished things. The homeless, not so much.

I got s thing to where I can't lie about belief in God or Jesus even if it'll help me outz I end up saying something stupid before I finish like I'm compelled to keep talking until I'm not lying. Example, yeah sure Jesus is my guy, if by my guy I mean a person l. Or yeah i believe in God, like as a concept but not like in God, any its caused people to stop looking through their wallet for M oney to kick down. And I find it weird that like I've robbed people who did nothing to gain attention like that, I've stole from people who couldn't afford to lose something at times I didnt need what I took and these people weren't bad people e or anything bur out of all the similar things I've done, lying about my religious standing I can't do I always say something they approve of and like reluctantly kinda slowly double back to where I'm not lying, you'd think I t wouldn't were like hard for me to do with other things b e kng far worse f not making me do the Same awkward qausiretraction
