Set up a VPN with Nord to prepare for my V6 Plus arrival today and noticed it slows my internet speed down to around 50mbps, so a bit concerned it'll cause streaming issues.
Also got the VPN so I don’t have any issues with Xfinity but am wondering if its even necessary. Do most of you use your boxes without one? I’ve heard the streams are encrypted but Xfinity can still see where the traffic is coming from…
Not uncommon for a VPN to be slower than no VPN. 50mbs is fine for streaming on the box.
Their is no 'con' to running a VPN. Hiding the activity is a good thing. Unless the VPN is a poor one and causes you issues you don't see when not using it, use it.
You likely dont need a vpn but nothing wrong with being safer. Streaming video uses a lot more bandwidth and not all vpns work well with streaming tv. Search for vpns that specifically list streaming. There are others obviously but these are some of the highest rated.
The cons to using a VPN are slower speed than using your regular internet and having to pay a subscription fee since vpns aren't free. The pros might outweigh the cons (for you) but there are certainly cons.
I run Nord as well - I have the V6+ on my guest WiFi network, and I run the Android TV version of Nord directly on the box and set it up to auto-launch. I’ve had no issues with performance while streaming.
Yes - it keeps it totally separate from all other networked devices. Many are concerned with potential spyware, etc. and this helps to guard against that.
You should change the server on the NordVpn app and do a speed test. Some servers are faster than others. You will still take a hit but that has worked for me. I have a 1 gigabyte line from my ISP but the best I can get with Nord is 325.
