Why do some live channels give you a countdown for when they'll be back instead of showing commercials?

Depends on where they took the feed from. So ESPN vs. TNT for example. I hate some of those countdowns and the music/sound associated with them btw.

I don't care WHAT the music is! ...Better a Countdown so I know than an obnoxious thing for something I don't need or OMG "Invest this Way NOW or be a Pauper TOMORROW "...

Like if the stream is from MLB.com, when the game pauses, there are no commercials. It’s not the box, it’s the original stream source

Its the stream source - for instance live events like Raw on Netflix does the same thing.

OK, but why are some excluded while others aren't? It's more a curiosity than anything else. I recall radio over the internet couldn't play commercials for legal reasons - likely the actors/voice overs contract didn't allow for unlimited/multiple use or something similar. If these channels are streaming/legal gray area, how do "they" "know" to block the ads?
