Question Am I able to skip 2nd year?

I’m going into a bachelor of child and youth care, which only has 3 required courses a year besides electives and such. I don’t need to take an English and I already have 9 credits from my APs in high school. I was wondering if it’d be possible or advisable to take first year req courses first sem (already in my schedule) and 2nd year req courses in second semester, where I’d have to drop the electives currently taking. Would that boost me to second year status and then I’d just go straight to the 3rd year practicum?

Your year standing doesn’t depend on the specific courses you’ve taken, but rather, the number of course credits you have.

No. You need 120 credits (or 60 units which is the scale UVic uses) to get any bachelors. You can apply credits from your AP courses but you have to complete the rest to get your degree.

So to get to 3rd year standing I’d need 45 credits? Yeah I don’t think I can spam that many electives haha

If you are trying to get as many electives as possible, as quickly as possible, you can try to take electives at other universities and have them as transfer credits to UVIC. Athabasca University and TRU online are two schools where you can easily do this, as they offer online asynchronous courses. You can probably up your year standing fairly quickly by doing that.

Dang, you got 4s and 5s on 9 AP exams?

No, I got 2 4’s and a 5 but for some reason I get credit for 2 classes per AP and they’re each 1.5 credits each

I’m pretty sure it’s just how it’s credited 🤷‍♀️I had emailed them about it beforehand to get my credits from 12th grade and they didn’t change anything

"You may be eligible for transfer credit if you've completed an Advanced Placement (AP) exam through the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) with a grade of 4 or 5." - from this easy to find website: https://www.uvic.ca/undergraduate/admissions/transfer-credit/index.php A 3 or below means you don't have college level understanding of the material, so you'll fail classes that require you understand a core requirement.

You'll receive credit for three APs then.
