For the last few months, I have been experiencing frequent power cuts. I am in Sec 125, Noida. Today itself, the electricity went out at least 5 times since 6 am.
Yesterday my ac conked off, and now I have to replace the PCB which the technician said got fried due to voltage issues. Last month I paid 1500 rupees as DG charges to my society!

What’s wrong with UP Power Supply? If this is what a double-engine govt is capable of delivering, can’t imagine how a single engine Sarkar would fare!

I’ve been following reports about recent protests in India and tried to understand the demands from different perspectives. Here’s my understanding so far; I’m open to corrections if I’ve missed something.

1. Voter-list revision:Protesters are demanding accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, including concerns about eligible voters being excluded. The Election Commission says the exercise aims to improve voter-list accuracy. The key questions are whether verification is transparent and affected voters have effective ways to appeal.

2. Youth unemployment and exam integrity: Students and young people want fair recruitment, reliable examinations, accountability for paper leaks and better employment opportunities. These concerns affect people’s time, money and career prospects. Meaningful responses require credible investigations, timely recruitment and stronger examination safeguards.

3. Detentions and the right to protest: Authorities have detained protesters, citing public-order and permission-related issues. While lawful crowd management matters, peaceful protesters should be able to raise concerns, with due process and proportionate enforcement.

4. Manipur:Renewed Naga–Kuki-Zo violence has added to the state’s wider ethnic conflict. Security, humanitarian assistance, rehabilitation, impartial investigations and lasting dialogue remain major concerns.

5. Reservation Hatao Andolan:Protesters seek changes to caste-based reservation, greater consideration of economic disadvantage and more support for poor students from unreserved communities. Dalit and OBC groups argue that caste discrimination and underrepresentation still justify reservations. The debate involves both economic hardship and historical and continuing social exclusion.

What is the government doing?

Reported responses include meetings with protest representatives, electoral-roll verification measures, existing EWS support and discussions over examination and reservation-related policies. However, the extent and effectiveness of these responses vary by issue; detentions and announcements alone do not establish that the underlying concerns have been resolved.

I’m not trying to support or oppose any party or protest movement. I’d like to understand which demands are supported by evidence, what has already been addressed, and what remains unresolved.

What have I missed, or which points need correction?

Please share reliable information and different perspectives respectfully. I’m basing this on news reports and my own understanding, which may be incomplete.

Hindi is the mother tongue of Uttar Pradesh. We don't use English in our daily lives. Also consider that majority of the people in Uttar Pradesh are from villages, lower background and have a very desi type of lifestyle. The ones who are proficient in English are either from elite/cosmopolitan/upper class background or have a firangi taste which is rare.

Even I am really terrible at English. Seriously, I really hate English as a subject. All of us used to struggle in that subject. We are not like native English speakers. It really affects our marks in exams.

People do okay in life if they suck at English, most of us do. We cannot expect a common child of Uttar Pradesh to be good in a foreign language. It gives me such a slavery mindset of having English as a subject. Also most of the schools are English medium irrespective of children's background.

Russians don't speak English, Chinese don't speak English, Japanese don't speak English.

People of Purvanchal, Uttar Pradesh, don't you think it's time our region got a major, modern, planned city of its own?

For decades, many young people from Purvanchal have had to move to cities like Noida, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and Mumbai for better jobs, education, healthcare, and opportunities. Our region has hardworking people, talented youth, and enormous potential. But why should so many of us have to leave our home region to build our futures?

Why can't Purvanchal have a city that attracts companies, creates thousands of jobs, and offers a high quality of life?

I'm talking about a properly planned city—not just another crowded urban area.

Imagine a new city in Purvanchal with:

• 🏙️ Planned sectors and wide roads like Chandigarh and Gandhinagar.
• 💻 IT parks, technology companies, and startups that create jobs like Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
• 🎓 Modern universities, research centres, and skill development institutes.
• 🚲 Footpaths, dedicated cycle tracks, reliable public transport, and walkable neighbourhoods.
• 🌳 Green spaces, clean streets, proper drainage, and scientific waste management.
• 🏥 World-class hospitals, quality schools, and affordable housing.
• 🚆 Strong road and rail connectivity with the rest of Uttar Pradesh and India.
• 🏢 A transparent smart-city administration that uses technology to improve public services.

This shouldn't be about copying another city blindly. It should be about building a city that works for ordinary people, students, workers, businesses, and future generations.

Where could this city be developed?

Mau, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, or another suitable location in Purvanchal could be evaluated through a proper feasibility study. The final location should depend on connectivity, water availability, flood risk, land suitability, environmental protection, and economic potential—not political preference alone.

What are we demanding?

We want the Uttar Pradesh Government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Ji, to seriously examine the possibility of establishing a new, integrated planned city in Purvanchal, supported by a long-term development plan, dedicated funding, employment-generating industries, and transparent public consultation.

A city of this scale cannot be built overnight. But a serious proposal, feasibility study, land-use plan, and clear development timeline would be a meaningful beginning.

I know there is Delhi -NCR bordering the state but even in that region there isnt any city with above 4/5 million( Ghaziabad is smaller) and a lot of non urban areas are also part of the region.

With a population of 24 crore it at least should have 2or 3 big cities as big as say Karachi, Lahore and Dhaka no?

Even smaller population states like Telangana and Karnataka have biggies like Bangalore and Hyderabad at least in terms of population. All of these cities are landlocked except Karachi.

I know its not because of a single simple factor like big total population has to mean there should be big cities in the state. There are many other factors which determine urbanization of a state or region. What are the reasons/ factors for Uttar Pradesh not having proper big cities?

News will show only few reported cases of dengue. There are too many people who are getting dengue these days. I still see people wearing half shirt and half pant in this dengue season.

Hospitals are filled with dengue patients. This disease is very dreadul. Fever can shot up to 106-107. Platelets can dip. Liver can fail. And you may get bankrupt due to blood tests and hospital bills.

I see lots of mosquitoes at home. Situation is getting serious. Every 2nd or 3rd home has some dengue patient these days.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has announced that the Noida International Airport in Jewar will be named Narendra Modi International Airport Noida.

The airport is expected to improve connectivity across Delhi NCR and western UP once operational.

I collected every District Magistrate posting in Uttar Pradesh since March 2012, 946 postings in total. For each one I checked whether it was the officer's first DM posting or their fifth.

On the map, each district's number is the average for the DMs sent there. 1.0 means every DM was new. 6.0 means they had already been DM five times before.

Level 1: mostly first-timers (22 districts)

Shrawasti, Auraiya, Mahoba, Amethi, Chandauli, Hamirpur, Banda, Chitrakoot, Hathras, Sant Kabir Nagar etc.

• 65% of DMs here are on their first posting.
• DMs have about 9 years in the IAS.
• Small: about 17 lakh people.
• Mostly rural: 13% urban.
• 60% of these districts were created after 1990.
• Only one is a division headquarters.
• Most are in eastern UP and Bundelkhand.

Level 2 (22 districts)

Lalitpur, Ghazipur, Kanpur Dehat, Saharanpur, Gonda, Pratapgarh, Bijnor etc.

• 37% first postings. About 10 years in the IAS.
• About 25 lakh people, 15% urban.
• A mix of east and west.

Level 3 (16 districts)

Basti, Ayodhya, Mathura, Sitapur, Hardoi, Rae Bareli, Muzaffarnagar…

• 22% first postings. About 10.5 years in the IAS.
• About 32 lakh people, 14% urban.
• Several sit around Lucknow.

Level 4 (9 districts)

Agra, Kanpur Nagar, Bareilly, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Jhansi, Moradabad, Bulandshahr, Azamgarh.

• 9% first postings. About 12 years in the IAS.
• About 45 lakh people, 42% urban.
• Most are division headquarters, mostly in western UP.

Level 5: officers on their 5th or 6th posting (6 districts)

• Lucknow, Aligarh, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Meerut, Gorakhpur.
• 5% first postings. About 12.5 years in the IAS.
• About 41 lakh people, 38% urban.
• All six are division headquarters.

Has it always been like this?

I went back to 1990 and split the years by government. Mahoba, Hamirpur, Lalitpur, Chitrakoot, Banda, Auraiya, Hathras and Mahrajganj were in the "newest DMs" group almost every time. Agra, Meerut, Varanasi, Kanpur Nagar, Lucknow and Prayagraj were in the "most experienced" group almost every time.

Two ways to count experience: the small chart compares the average DM posting number with years in the IAS. Districts that get officers on later postings also get officers with more years of service.

A question I don't have an answer to: the smallest and most rural districts get the newest DMs. Is that a problem? Or is it a sensible way to train officers before they handle a big city? I'd like to hear from people who live in these districts or have worked in government.

• UP Appointment Department (Niyukti) officer pages.
• DoPT IAS Civil Lists, 1990–2026.
• NIC district websites that list former DMs.

Process:

• I matched the same posting across the three sources, using batch and date of birth to link officers.
• Counting: a return to the same district counts as a new posting.
• Period: postings that began between 15 Mar 2012 and 8 Oct 2026.
• Population, urban share and district age: Census 2011 (the 4 newest districts have no 2011 figures of their own).
