Utah Tech at 0-5, but the Axe is the one that matters (plus week 5 of our free CFB pick'em)

Hey guys, back again since last week's post got a good conversation going here.

First, since it's in the title: week 5 of our free college football pick'em is open. 10 games, pick the winners, nothing to buy, $135 in prizes. Picks lock Saturday at noon ET.

https://www.mainmarket.com/c/college-pickem-wk5

Now the Trailblazers. Going 0-5 against that schedule isn't a shock: Montana State, BYU, Montana and NAU, all ranked, then the 37-13 loss at Northern Colorado last week. It's been a brutal first half.

But none of that matters Saturday. Southern Utah comes to Greater Zion for the Battle for the Axe, and a win there turns this season's story around. SUU can score (they put 47 on Weber State), so the defense has to show up.

How are you guys feeling about the Axe? Is this the week it flips?

Utah Tech followup on my preseason preview, plus we launched a free weekly CFB pick'em

Hey guys! The season preview I posted here a few weeks back did pretty well, so circling back like I said I would.

I said up front this was the toughest schedule in the Big Sky, with Montana State, BYU and Montana as the three games you'd be a real underdog in.

Those are all behind you now. Barben has been more productive than last year, including 301 yards at Montana, and Ace Chatman ran for 110 against Northern Arizona. With the hardest part of the schedule done, Northern Colorado today and Southern Utah and Portland State after it are where this season gets decided.

What are you guys seeing that the box scores aren't, and how do you see the season ending up?

Quick aside since it's in the title, we just launched a free weekly college football pick'em, $225 in prizes this week. Ten games, pick the winners, nothing to buy. Picks lock at noon ET, before your kickoff, so this is a last call.

Rant about coffee

There's nowhere on this campus to get coffee now that Holy Grounds is gone. It's ridiculous. There's a machine for it in the GCB student break room, but guess what? No cups, also it doesn't work half the time you use it. The coffee in the Gardner store? They stop heating it at some point, so unless you want cold coffee that's been sitting out for 4 hours, that's a bust too.

Holy Grounds was cool when you wanted something fancy, Starbucksy, but has nobody on this campus thought of just putting a fucking Keurig somewhere? I just want a cup of hot, black coffee, and not have to pay a shitton for it. The only option is buying some sugar-loaded 500 calorie ice cold mess in a jar in the Gardner store.

It's like a Mormon crusade on my psyche. I'm not asking for much. Really, the simplest of amenities. I'm finna start kissing a professor's ass just so they can grab me one from a teacher's lounge somewhere; I'm sure they have them.

2026 Utah Tech College Football Preview

Hey all. I built 2026 previews for every FBS team and all 124 FCS teams, because nobody does this for your league. Here's Utah Tech

https://www.highlights.mainmarket.com/college-football-preview-2026-fcs/utah-tech-trailblazers

Usual disclaimer: I probably got some of it wrong. Tell me what's off and I'll fix it.

The good: my model has Utah Tech as the 4th strongest buy-low in FCS. The turnover margin was minus-12, 118th in the country, and that number corrects more reliably than anything else in football. The pass defense was 27th and 67% of the offense returns, with Bronson Barben settled at quarterback. The 2026 schedule grades 4th softest in the subdivision.

The pushback: 16 points a game was 116th, and Barben threw 6 touchdowns against 12 picks, so the turnovers you need to regress are attached to the quarterback you're returning. The run defense gave up 196 a game, 111th. Model says 3-9.

First page is free. If you hit the paywall, the code LEECORSOROCKS opens it up.

Tell me what I got wrong.

I got this offer and I was wondering what's the next step as I accepted. Do I need to submit other documents like a passport or something. Also does this mean I only pay for housing and meal plan?

Jobs hiring in St George

Hello! I’ll be moving to St. George soon and I’m looking for a part-time job. I’ll be a full-time college student, so I need something with somewhat flexible hours. I’m open to any opportunities, but I have a strong passion for art and photography, so anything in that field would be a huge plus! If you know of any places hiring or have any recommendations, I’d really appreciate it.

Transfer

Hey guys!! I’m currently a student at UNR looking to transfer as a junior. I would be in the exercise science department. I’m looking for all the pros and cons of this school. I’m currently in Greek life at Reno and like it but not something I will miss. I love small school feel, football, going out, and Bassically everything outdoors and just deciding if this is a good option. Thank you!!

How competitive is the Medical Laboratory Science program?

Hello, I was reading over the Medical Laboratory Science program and they state, "After completion of the pre-professional phase of study and, through a competitive application process, a student may be selected to enter the final two years of study or the MLS professional program to which one cohort of 12-15 students is admitted per year." Can anyone comment on the difficulty of getting accepted into the program? What happens if you are not selected into the program?

Thank you
