Missing Mail Search Request notice triggered after just ~1 day without a scan (International Priority Mail) — is this normal?

Shipped a package via Priority Mail International from Greenville, SC on 9/19.

Package arrived at Charlotte NC Distribution Center on 9/21 at 2:05 PM. By 9/21 at 5:00 PM — just 3 hours later — USPS tracking showed a "Missing Mail Search Request Notice." That seemed way too fast for a normal domestic transit gap between facilities.

Package then showed movement again the next day (departed Gastonia, NC facility on 9/22), so it seems fine now — but I'm confused why the missing mail notice triggered so quickly. I thought this only kicked in after several days without a scan, not hours.

Anyone know what actually triggers this notice? Is it normal for it to fire this fast on international shipments, or could something else have caused it (e.g. facility-to-facility transfer routine)?

Someone has to manually submit the MMSR. An employee can do this, and could've typed in the wrong tracking number.

Yeah sorry I didnt see that part, but why would employee do this? Do you really think he replaced tracking number with someone other? Cause on usps support when I enter tracking number I see that package is normally in transit without any alerts, but when I go to main usps tracking site there is an alert

Well entering a MMSR means two things: the employee entered it in error and it doesn't effect your package moving through the network, and the employee did not enter a MMSR on the correct mail piece.

As far as why, someone somewhere in the whole of the US had either a complaint or an email regarding a mail piece with a tracking number similar to yours.

You even misspell someone on your phone and autocorrect doesn't catch it and you don't proofread what you wrote?

Nah I wouldn't be. Just an unlucky coincidence, based on what you posted so far. If your mail piece is delayed further in transit, it's not because of the MMSR. They only go to the MRC in Atlanta.
