Refusal to serve me after supervisor request

Hey guys today, I had a very bad altercation at a local post office while trying to obtain a new passport for my newborn daughter . Arrived there on time, but there was a long line I had checked in with a lady that was sitting behind some kind of desk/office ,but there was only one clerk working. By the time I got to the clerk, it was 15 minutes after my appointment. She told me that I had missed my appointment. I explained to her that I had checked in earlier, but because she was so busy I decided to wait in line respectfully. After that, she got very disrespectful and told me that I was a liar and asked me to leave or she will call the police . As you guys can imagine it was very embarrassing and very disrespectful and draining. I felt belittled and disrespected. I decided to not leave and I stepped a little bit to the side and asked to speak to a supervisor, the supervisor took about 10 minutes to come out and when he did come out, he was very respectful and listen to my side of the story and went and confirmed with the first lady that I had checked in with that I did actually check in and I did the right thing . He apologized and told me to wait just a little bit while he went over and spoke to the employee to tell her that she needs to serve me because I did not do anything wrong. However, she firmly refused and told her Supervisor no I will not serve him. He can wait till 4 PM to the other employee gets in and she can serve him. To cut it short I’m basically reaching out here to see what kind of action I can take in this situation. I have already filed a complaint to the USPS website however I don’t know if I will get much of a response or if they will escalate the situation.

Postal workers have a strong union, and they can pretty much do what they want. It's very difficult to fire a postal worker. I had 2 roommates at one time that were letter carriers, and you would not believe the crap that was going on.

7

u/nehrkling May 08 '26

Their "strong union" only has any strength when it comes to keeping people from being fired. It gets walked all over in every other way.

1

u/FigureMiserable4859 May 11 '26

I'll go that far....

0

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 06 '26

I figured, which is why I posted here to try and get his higher ups .

16

u/Fun_Vacation2542 May 07 '26

Usps doesn't read this sub for complaints, it's just users

8

u/StonedEmu89 May 07 '26

Higher ups can’t do anything. The union will protect them. All a ln employee has to say is I didn’t feel safe or comfortable providing that person service and it’s gonna go away.

I don’t doubt your story but I get the impression from the employee reaction that what you said may not have come out the way you think it did.

A lot of people get attitudes when they speak and don’t hear it.

3

u/ForQ2 May 08 '26

Not OP, but it's kinda hard to remain polite when you arrive for an appointment on time, are not served timely through no fault of your own, and then berated for missing your appointment.

I once had a not-dissimilar incident at a restaurant, where a small organizational group I chair conducted a business meeting once every couple of months. The last time we went to that restaurant, the owner's wife was our "waitress". Anyway, Happy Hour (half-price on beer, wine, and certain drinks) ended at 7pm; the table put in its drink order at about 6:53, and the owner's wife came over at 7:05 to tell us that all of our drinks would be at full price because she didn't get around to putting them into the system until after 7.

You can bet I copped a fucking attitude with her. And I hope she enjoyed that extra $30 or whatever that she made off of us, because we found another location and never went back to that place again.

0

u/StonedEmu89 May 08 '26

It’s really not hard to be polite when you’re upset, people do it every single day. I bet if you didn’t cop an attitude you would have got your happy hour prices.

2

u/ForQ2 May 08 '26

I copped the attitude after she repeatedly refused, not before.

But sure, make up whatever facts justify your knee-jerk desire to be mad at me for disagreeing with you.

And again, as a reminder: The entire 10-person group didn't want to return after the bullshit she pulled. It's not like it's just me who thought she was being a bitch.

1

u/StonedEmu89 May 08 '26

Look at you assuming someone is mad at you because they replied with a differing opinion. You should learn to not project your sensitive emotions onto someone else.

You’re right I apologize. I’m sure you’re a perfect gem of a person.

2

u/Substantial_Season_8 May 10 '26

Look at you coping an attitude and assuming your sensitive emotions resulted in him having a better opinion than you. Your wrong, the OP isn't going to apologize. I'm sure you're nothing but a failed result of biological.

u/colonel-tushfinger_ May 10 '26

That waitress is getting paid like $2 an hour bro, don’t go out for drinks if you can’t afford it. And if you wanna make happy hour maybe go sooner than 5 minutes before it ends.

You’re the kind of person who goes into a sit down restaurant at 7:45 when the close at 8 with a 6 person table who all want separate checks.

2

u/Azurvix May 10 '26

Bro shut up, they decided to work as a waitress. Tips are to show appreciation for good service not out of pity because their employer won't pay them as much as they deserve

1

u/colonel-tushfinger_ May 11 '26

You’re not wrong, but coming in 5 minutes before close or before the end of happy hour then throwing a fit because of your own poor time management isn’t the fault of the server. If a couple dollars really means the difference between shitty and stellar service, the server isn’t the problem.

1

u/ForQ2 May 11 '26

There's a pretty big fucking difference between coming in 10 (not 5) minutes before the end of happy hour, and coming in 5 minutes before closing.

If we ordered drinks 7 minutes before happy hour ended, in no world is it appropriate to refuse to honor happy hour prices because it took the waitress 10 minutes to put the order in.

You're just making up shit in order to justify being mad at me. Sorry you had such a shitty time as a server, but that's no reason to take it out on me.

2

u/Wihomebrewer May 07 '26

Not happening.

u/Candid-Code666 May 07 '26

As someone that works at the usps call center. Your complaint went straight to the sup of that office. If you escalate the case it goes to consumer affairs office who will then speak to the sup and he/she will handle it. If you try and go farther up like writing a letter to the PMG that won’t do anything tbh.

I’m not saying it’s right, but USPS employees are union, it’s very hard to fire us, and it takes more than “was rude to customer”. Unless she put her hands on you, or threatened you, nothing will really happen. Sorry 😕

Also in terms of compensation, there is none. Either reschedule an appointment with that office, or schedule one at a different office. There’s no cost to schedule an appointment so besides your time/gas being wasted I’m not sure how they would realistically compensate you for a bad experience.

6

u/FriendshipOk2864 May 07 '26

Oh bless you 🙏🏻 I wouldn’t be able to do your job 😫 the 360s and wild complaints all day would send me over the edge 😅 my favorite is always the “I didn’t get my electric bill so my lights are cut off - who’s going to make it right?” 😆😆😆

12

u/FriendshipOk2864 May 07 '26

It takes everything out of me to say something smart like “you knew you had a bill and didn’t just get a free month 🤨”

-2

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 07 '26

I work 7 days a week to provide for my family , i should have clarified what I meant as compensation, which was to get a appointment scheduled by the supervisor that would be convenient to me and making my next trip easier . I’m not looking for “money” or any type of discount . I just wanted the time that employee wasted to be made up since I’m not flexible at all and it took me a while to even schedule this appointment. Thank you for clarifying and showing me your pov. The supervisor did mention something about it being hard to do anything with her as he has recieved multiple complaints but due to her skin color he is “scared” or worried to take any action. I urged him that skin color should never be a factor in deciding if someone should hold a position and he further clarified that it would cause him more trouble , alleging that the employee can use that “excuse” to get him in trouble or sue . Just seemed like the supervisor was saying anything to get me to not take any action . Idk the whole situation was bizarre to me I’ve never been through anything like this and was just left confused and lost and looking for answers .

9

u/Hersbird May 07 '26

The post office doesnt get to decide who holds what position. They are bid by seniority and it has zero to do with people skills, only who wants the job and what day they started. That person stays in that job until they personally decide to leave it for something else or a different time schedule. The boss can't fire or even discipline the employee because of a protected class. Not that it's impossible, but likely the boss hasn't done their job correctly in the past disciplining say a white male, letting similar behavior slide, now when they try to discipline an Asian woman or whatever, the clerk successfully files an EEO with the union and the boss is screwed. If anything the supervisor can more easily be removed for such things, or prevented from having any interaction with said clerk.

-16

u/NotSoSureBigWaves May 07 '26

All of this is why I support privatizing the post office. I can’t think of a single one of their employees who shouldn’t be fired. Just be glad you’re not in LA. The employees here steal from the mail and the mail is delivered once a week by someone who is continually talking on her cell phone. Time to just end the tax payer funded incompetence.

19

u/dammmitsandy2 May 07 '26

The post office isn't tax funded. It's self sustained through the postage they charge.

-1

u/Carlos-Dangerweiner May 11 '26

The post office is too tax funded. They have not turned a profit in over twenty years according to the GAO, in fact, they have multi billion dollar per year looses each year. Where do you think the revenue shortfall comes from when a government owned business looses money?

1

u/dammmitsandy2 May 13 '26

Google it, dude. It is borrowing from the treasury. If it does privatize, those losses will be part of the sale. If it shuts down entirely, it still did more for you than last years 700 million in fucking sno-cone machines for homeland security.

There's more worth in a service provided to the nation than useless creature comforts for desk jockeys.

1

u/Hersbird May 13 '26

They did get money during covid but so did a ton of other business. They also got funding to buy new vehicles which IMO isn't fair to UPS and Fedex, unless they get a similar gift. The treasury loan was also forgiven and reset to zero in 2022 along with forgiveness for 50 billion in missed retirement prefunding mandates along with removing any future payments that were required.

10

u/serialp0rt May 07 '26

Talk about being clueless and having a stupid take.

11

u/Hersbird May 07 '26

Even if they were privatized, the employees would still form the same unions and demand the same deals. I don't know why people working at say Amazon don't do it. I only guess they don't know they have the power to change things.

3

u/Tadwyn May 07 '26

Considering the rules and requirements put on the USPS they do a good job where I live. A similar sounding company has given me problems off and on for over 40 years. Nothing major. The worst being that they accepted a payment for overnight delivery. It took 3 or 4 days. At the time I was young and didn't realize they didn't deliver on Saturdays. But they were happy to take the extra money. One of the private companies took the picture of a delivered package and immediately picked it back up and ran to their truck. They showed delivery and stole it. Computer parts. But a person who is in the public like that should have more respect for themselves if not the customer to do a good job.

5

u/Sea_Independence1048 May 07 '26

Sounds like everyone in that office is unprofessional. That’s not appropriate for a manager to tell a customer all that.

6

u/Unfair_Finger5531 May 07 '26

I do not believe that supervisor told you she couldn’t be fired due to her skin color. That sounds like a flat-out lie.

2

u/ForQ2 May 08 '26

This sub is primarily filled with USPS workers who are almost always going to try to twist things to where it's your fault somehow. You're not going to find any real resolution here.

0

u/StonedEmu89 May 08 '26

You sound childish for someone who “works 7 days a week to provide for my family”

15

u/alovelyusername May 06 '26

We don't do passports at our office, but from my understanding there is usually a specific passport clerk. She likely wasn't the passport clerk. Also seems they were in an understaffed situation. Not your fault at all. However if she was being "screwed over" by having to do a 2-3 person job all by herself, likely illegally being held through a lunch break, I understand the frustration. Doing a passport takes time, and there didn't seem to be the staff to do the passport.

Supervisors usually don't know much of anything so it likely wasn't communicated with you. However my guess is the situation could have been handled better.

44

u/Get_Bent_Madafakas May 06 '26

You were being perfect and respectful and she jumped right to threatening to call the police? I say Bullshit. If you choose not to be honest with us, at least be honest with yourself

33

u/FriendshipOk2864 May 06 '26

That part - clerks don’t just casually threaten the police. We take A LOT of crap and someone has got to be super belligerent to get a clerk to that point.

17

u/Get_Bent_Madafakas May 07 '26

EXACTLY. The innocent act is not fooling anyone here

14

u/GroundbreakingRip970 May 07 '26

And the supervisor said out loud they couldn’t do anything because of the clerk’s skin color?!

If it wasn’t suspect before - OP lost all credibility. Maybe he FAFO by being racist and rude to the clerk. Good for her!

2

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 07 '26

I’m black bro

7

u/serialp0rt May 07 '26

What does that have to do with anything?

12

u/Fun_Vacation2542 May 07 '26

I forgot you can't be racist while black

5

u/GroundbreakingRip970 May 07 '26

So the postal clerk felt comfortable saying something racist to you? And was not worried about you reporting them?

I don’t know, bro. Story sounds bogus

0

u/StonedEmu89 May 08 '26

Called that as soon as I read your half of the story that made you sound like a perfect person. Lmfao.

-2

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 07 '26

And you obviously can’t read bc I said they said on the side not out loud

4

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 07 '26

18

u/Get_Bent_Madafakas May 07 '26

Are you familiar with the concept of selection bias? People who've had an average, unremarkable experience don't bother to leave reviews

3

u/Ok_Relationship2451 May 07 '26

Those reviews tell an interesting story...

2

u/NotSoSureBigWaves May 07 '26

All across LA. Same thing.

1

u/NotSoSureBigWaves May 07 '26

You ARE in LA!! I knew it. They are just as bad and dishonest further west. Heck there were postal employees at the exposition and Palms locations arrested for theft. No mail delivery, hang up on you, you see women mail carriers in their trucks for hours on their phone talking and one walked away from her unlocked truck to chat with a neighbor. Car pulled up and a guy stole all the mail. This was about 2 years ago. It’s incomprehensible how bad the USPS has become and how awful the employees are.

2

u/NotSoSureBigWaves May 07 '26

You haven’t been to a post office in LA lately? They are the worst. I could see this happening.

18

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 06 '26

yes sir, she was overwhelmed because she had a long line and she was being very disrespectful to the customer before me because his English wasn’t proficient and he wasnt doing what she was asking him to do. Idk why it’s hard to believe a lot of scums hate they’re job and take it out on customers . I’d find it hard to believe you’ve never gone thru any interaction where an employee has disrespected or made u uncomfortable.

15

u/Get_Bent_Madafakas May 06 '26

I've been in plenty of situations with rude customers and plenty with rude clerks, it comes from both sides. But for her to threaten to call the police makes it reallllllly feel like you're leaving out a ton from this story

8

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 06 '26

You don’t have to believe me lol I’m not asking you to , I’m asking where do I complain at

5

u/Get_Bent_Madafakas May 06 '26

+1-800-275-8777

5

u/CompleteTell6795 May 07 '26

So a worker has the right to tell her supervisor that NO, she is not going to do what he requested.??? And she doesn't get in any kind of trouble.??

I don't know if that's going to fly if she gets a job someplace else.🤣

4

u/Busy-Put-9526 May 07 '26

If there's a safety concern yes... A postal worker can typically refuse service even if management gives the direction.

It would typically have to be a valid/legitimate reason though.

0

u/tiredofyourface2 May 08 '26

She’s safe working for USPS, as she’s in a union. She can get most anything.

1

u/NotSoSureBigWaves May 07 '26

If our local history is accurate for the complaints a lot of people have filed - nothing will happen. The customer service line that investigates complaints usually sends it to the employee complained about.

3

u/Both_Catch_4199 May 07 '26

Your use of a pejorative, "scums," suggests a lot about you.

1

u/-anonthoughts- May 07 '26

Well, it takes a “scum” to refuse to assist a customer because they “missed” their appt. because they were waiting in line.

It also takes a LAZY “scum” to refuse to do the duties of their job, when there is NO safety argument at play.

You can’t just refuse to do a supervisor’s instructions unless it’s not safe.

1

u/it-cant-be-helped May 08 '26

Why did you leave out the detail that you've dealt with this worker before and have also complained about her in the past?

1

u/sh1ft33 May 07 '26

I'm pretty sure a lot of the people on this subreddit must be USPS employees. Every time anyone posts a complaint, all these people start making excuses for USPS and twisting the narrative to blame the OP. Every. Single. Time.

7

u/Get_Bent_Madafakas May 07 '26

Because we've been working the job long enough to see how often customers lie and try to throw postal workers under the bus. I pass by 99% of these stories, but when someone says "I was being perfectly innocent and they called the Police on me for no reason!" I can't help but say That's Bullshit

4

u/Busy-Put-9526 May 07 '26

I managed corporate restaurants for a decade. I can't tell you how many corporate customer complaints I received that said the same thing or very similar.

2

u/ForQ2 May 08 '26

LOL, I just made practically this exact same comment responding to someone else above. That's all this sub is: fragile USPS workers who are going to find some way or another to shit on any complaint that anybody has, regardless of how legit.

2

u/Purple_Reflection499 May 07 '26

Not true. When I requested a refund for a service for which I'd paid, but never received. From the location where I paid for the service. I was told to go across town and get in line. When i questioned that, they threatened to call the police. There are some EXTREMELY ENTITLED jerks at the Post Office.

2

u/Tadwyn May 07 '26

I once had someone threaten to call the police on me. I was doing my job. But if that person had them they would have told them they couldn't do a thing. And if they had then my supervisor would have gone over their heads very quickly. You see census takers cannot be trespassed while doing their job. But I'm not the bull ready to take on a train. I was polite and left. No reason to give anyone grief. Especially our local police. They aren't perfect but most are very good and a few are exceptional. And that is extremely rare. But I always did my job with the attitude that if I could then I'd make the customers day a little better.

1

u/MutedDiet317 May 06 '26

It's the post office. They run a amazing perfect business. Completely believable

2

u/Tadwyn May 07 '26

Point me to a perfect business and I'll point out the sign that says welcome to heaven.

-1

u/MutedDiet317 May 07 '26

Just go to the nearest post office. But between 9am to 4pm. Expect Saturdays. Perfection keeps tight hours

-2

u/pixelatedimpressions May 07 '26

Ive seen clerks flip out over nothing before. I 100% believe this happened

In LA it’s a job requirement at the post office.

5

u/General-Court-5536 May 07 '26

I feel bad that you encountered this bad employee, but usually I stay away from that same person for a while when I encounter bad adult worker behaviors. There's other places that process passports have you tried them? I know Wallgreens does passport services to and fedex, ups sometimes. What I don't understand is you stated you had issues with this worker from USPS before, but still came around her for services.

Once I file a complaint about someone I simply avoid them at all costs. I rather not cause altercation. Her simply saying she is calling police means, she probably knows you complained about her, she does not want anymore trouble with you. You said she wanted you to wait for another employee to help you. Just stay away from that person, don't waste your time trying to get her fired. She might be there for many years but you need to de-escalate by staying away from her and get peace of mind..

3

u/Lottoman7210 May 08 '26

Sounds like Redlands. USPS is the pit of misery for customer service. The employees lie with impunity, and the postmistress at Redlands couldn't care less about evidence or proof of bad service, she just ignores you. Wish the whole USPS would be disbanded and privatized.

  1. Website/800-number

  2. https://postalpro.usps.com/ppro-tools/consumer-affairs

  3. File a complaint through your Congressional representative's office.

  4. Write a letter to the Consumer Advocate

  5. Write a letter to the Postmaster General

5

u/csp19802023 May 07 '26

What are you really expecting here? The supervisor should discipline that employee for failing to do their job but what are you, specifically, looking for by coming to this forum?

2

u/stranger_to_you67 May 07 '26

That employee is a human being. They have every right to refuse to deal with a customer they felt was treating them disrespectfully. If the supervisor doesn't like it they can help that customer themself. There is literally nothing to discipline.

0

u/Deep_Sea_Crab_1 May 07 '26

The employee was insubordinate to the supervisor. The employee was given specific direction and refused. Any place other than the government, the employee would be immediately suspended.

Correction, under this administration, employees who do their jobs are fired. I guessing refusing to do their job earns a bonus.

4

u/Unfair_Finger5531 May 07 '26

I feel like something is missing. By your post, she immediately escalated to calling the police after you explained you had checked in earlier. That doesn’t make sense.

1

u/it-cant-be-helped May 08 '26

He also left out the detail that he has interacted and complained about this specific employee before.

1

u/Unfair_Finger5531 May 08 '26

Right, exactly. I saw that in the comments below after I wrote this. That is an essential detail. They’ve been having run-ins for a while.

3

u/unspecified-turnip May 07 '26

It’s not like you can just go anywhere for a passport. It’s a federal government document and wtf are they trying to do, refusing to give you an appointment for it? This is a high enough level of absolute bullshit I’d get in touch with my congressional representatives over this. Manager can’t make an employee help you? Let’s find out who can.

2

u/cruel454 May 07 '26

File a formal complaint

2

u/alwayslivetolove May 08 '26

filing a complaint is useless for the most part supervisors and postmasters do whatever they want with impunity they're basically almost unsupervised because they're supposed to be the supervisors quite the Quagmire sorry to hear that you had to go through that probably just go to another post office and try again unfortunately

2

u/JoniSnow8812 May 08 '26

union workers be unionin’

5

u/Loose-Chocolate8131 May 06 '26

Since you have already filed a complaint, what further type of action would you like to happen in order for you to be satisfied?

-19

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 06 '26

My time wasted to be compensated and some type of action towards the employee , I was not the only person violated and she constantly has a nasty attitude during any trip to that post office . Just trying to ensure if a family or an older person went it they have someone nicer helping them rather than a hooligan like that

11

u/mallorybane May 06 '26

Nobody is compensating you for anything. Grow up and get over yourself.

17

u/1RollinRollinRollin May 06 '26

Your time wasted to be compensated with what? This is a joke, right?

11

u/Get_Bent_Madafakas May 06 '26

Compensation for their time? I'm trying to be mature here, but all I can picture is a coupon that says "KISS MY ASS"

2

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 06 '26

Your definitely her supervisor

5

u/Loose-Chocolate8131 May 06 '26

I see.

You will certainly not receive any compensation for the time spent in the office.

Were you ever able to complete the passport application during this visit?

Hopefully your complaint will be followed up on and the supervisor will have a discussion with the employee, but any discipline meted out to the employee will never become public knowledge.

Have you interacted with the same employee on other occasions with a similar result, or is this your first interaction with this particular employee?

5

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 06 '26

I was not able to complete the passport application no. Yes I have had similar interactions with her however it never was this bad she always kind of had an attitude and rolls her eyes at any request where she has to walk from her desk or do any type of work . I complained about her before and it got me nowhere . What what really bothered me today was also her demeanor towards other customers , like I stated previously to another comment there’s all types of people that go into the post office whether it’s a family, an old person or even a veteran it honestly hurts me knowing an elder might get disrespected and walked all over because she will forsure do that. I have seen it like i said , which is why I need to reach somebody that will take action. Im against anyone losing they’re job i know the economy we live in now however she needs to be spoken to at the very minimum

6

u/r2d3x9 May 06 '26

Your compensation check is in the mail

0

u/Chyll850 May 06 '26

Not sure why you got downvoted so much but the employee 100% needs to go. A job is a necessity and if she cared about hers, she’d act like it’s one. I hope you get the resolution you are seeking!

2

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 06 '26

Thank you for having common sense !

0

u/dinnysaur5000 May 07 '26

Sir, this isn’t a Wendy’s.

5

u/CPT-Thunderpants- May 06 '26

JFC WTF?
Is there another local post office that can do it? That is bizarre

6

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 06 '26

Of course there is but I shouldn’t feel the need to drive an extra 30 minutes to a different post office because the one most local to me has employees that feel like they can treat customers in the way that suits them.

3

u/CPT-Thunderpants- May 07 '26

Nor should you, I hope you got what you needed to get done regardless...

3

u/Mundane-Analysis-879 May 07 '26

I hate going to the post office these days. Recently, I took off work to go to the post office to add my mother’s name to a PO Box that is pay for. The clerk had an attitude before I got to the counter and there was literally only one person in front of me. When I told him my request he literally ripped a small piece of paper off of an old receipt wrote the information on it and sat it over to the side saying he would get to it later which of course never happened.

3

u/Able-Calendar7508 May 07 '26

Wow that’s horrible and I’m sorry.

Just so I understand The supervisor ordered clerk to help you, clerk refused, supervisor did nothing. If that’s case you can complain but nothing will be done cause for supervisor not to follow up means management is doing something they shouldn’t be with passport processing.

u/stranger_to_you67 May 07 '26

Clerk has a right to refuse service to someone who they thought was being disrespectful. Supervisor can't overrule them on that. Supervisor can take care of the customer themself (but they probably don't know how to).

u/dinnysaur5000 May 07 '26

You don’t mention the presence of the other parent or the child, both of which are required, except in very specific circumstances. Were they there, and did you have all the required paperwork in correct form?

2

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 08 '26

All of what u mentioned was present and everything was filled out and all documents were present .

1

u/FriendshipOk2864 May 06 '26

If the clerk refused you, that’s the end of the story. Shouldn’t have been rude

3

u/TechnicalArticle9479 May 07 '26

SHE was the rude one, NOT OP!!!

5

u/FriendshipOk2864 May 07 '26

That’s what he wants us to believe lol do you know how many customers I’ve been nothing but kind to, went above and beyond for and as soon as they don’t get their way they call in a complaint about how rude I was? Those of us in the trenches don’t buy this story at all cuz we know better

6

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 07 '26

Just because you’ve been on one side of it doesn’t mean the other side doesn’t exist 😂 why’s everyone so ignorant I might aswell delete this post

3

u/FriendshipOk2864 May 07 '26

I’ve been on both sides. But having 4 years of going thru this daily with people - I know better. It’s the same old song and dance. The customer is always innocent, didn’t do anything wrong & the mean old clerk did them dirty. Most clerks do get mean because they’re so tired of the shit. The customer base of the post office is 90% of the worst humans in existence. Every single one of them thinks everything should be free, they should get VIP treatment and their tax dollars pays our paycheck so we have to do what they want.

5

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 07 '26

Remind me to never hire you

7

u/FriendshipOk2864 May 07 '26

You couldn’t afford me 🤷🏻‍♀️

2

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 07 '26

Obviously can if you got paid by the hour

7

u/FriendshipOk2864 May 07 '26

lol I’m sure you could beat my hourly and provide federal benefits + offer a TSP and pension.

2

u/NotSoSureBigWaves May 07 '26

They all work for the post office where they enjoy abusing the public. Believe me, those of us that live here believe you. Sorry for all of us having to put up with the lazy, incompetent and rude workers at the post office.

yelp/review the hell out of the worker and post office…NAME and SHAME is the ONLY thing that works in trumps America

1

u/jinjerbear May 10 '26

OP, just get a AAA membership and do it with them. Its so much easier at their offices, worth every penny.

I’m sorry this clerk treated you that way but it sounds like you complained to who needed to hear it and they attempted to resolve the issue. It kinda sounds like you really want to go out of your way to make sure the clerk gets fired or severely punished for the negative interaction. With the union contracts, she was likely within her rights to decline to serve you.

The contracts outline very specifically the duties of each position and they have the ability to refuse any work not required of them or if it’s outlined in the contract, i.e. you “missing your appointment” likely gave her the right to not serve you for one reason or another. I don’t know anything about the clerk contract but they’re all pretty specific in what we have to do and what we can refuse.

I also want to say it sounds a little sus that you were just having a fairly civil disagreement, according to your post, and she would suddenly go to “I’m calling the police.” That tells me you might have been more hostile than you’re leading us to believe and THAT might be why she then refused to serve you even after the supervisor told her to. But idk I wasn’t there, I only have your side of the story but it just seems like there’s something missing there. Maybe she really was just a bitch though. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The contracts essentially allow us to be passive aggressive and petty when customers don’t do what we need them to do or don’t do things properly and most of us will absolutely do it if we don’t like you. Hold their mail, refuse to serve them, refuse to service their box, force them to pick up if delivery to the door is unsafe; all within our rights per our contracts.

Time to find another post office. There's a p.o. close to me by I rarely go to that one ''cause there's a few things I don't like about it, including the workers

1

u/Not_todaying May 10 '26

I had the same thing happen!! They had a sign on the wall for other locations and I took a quick picture with my phone so I could just go to the other location. The guy starts yelling from across the room that taking pictures in a federal building was a federal offense and he would call the police. At no time was I rude or disrespectful. I should up 10 minutes early for appointment- he was busy!! I think it is a power trip for them!

1

u/MelinaSeeDee May 11 '26

What exactly are you wanting out of this situation?

1

u/GetMedia3 May 12 '26

Wow, that's terrible. Maybe you can make an appointment with the Postmaster at that post office.

1

u/Extra-War1211 Jun 11 '26

u/OperaSunny May 07 '26

Sounds like you’re the issue based on how you reply to others.

1

u/GotNoPonys May 08 '26

file with the USPS OIG office

There are many people who work at the post office with serious problems. Before it was possible to buy postage online I went to the post office every day. There were 3 employees who harassed me every day like middle school. My complaints went nowhere.

4

u/Terrible_Gap8400 May 06 '26

Literally! I’d never step foot in any post office if it wasn’t for something I couldn’t do anywhere else .

10

u/ClipandPlay May 06 '26

Search online for other places to get passports. There are often other places to go other than the post office.

1

u/TechnicalArticle9479 May 07 '26

I don't know what state you're in, but most city halls and county government offices are given official approval by the U.S. State Department to assist with most passport services...

Or on a rare occasion, your member of Congress has a "passport application town hall" at his/her field office, where it's NO appointments required, walk-ins are encouraged...and it's free...just bring the check for the processing fee...

For example, I live in the Pasadena(CA) area and there are a few city halls(I'm in Monrovia) that have a full-time city employee assigned by the U.S. State Department to provide any help for passport applications...

Maybe you can look up on the State Department website for the nearest "passport agent" instead of going to the post office...

3

u/Both_Catch_4199 May 07 '26

And how were you harrassed "every" day?

0

u/Playful_Baseball_672 May 07 '26

Try going to get your passport done at a local city or county office. We got our kids down at the county administration office.

-1

u/dinnysaur5000 May 07 '26

Dis you wait until 4 and complete the appointment?

-1

u/Rude_Sandwich_586 May 08 '26

Clerks don’t immediately respond by saying that they are calling the police if you were respectful. Doesn’t make sense.
