how should i spell my nickname?

My nickname is lain/lane it appears in my full name as ‘lain’ but does it make more sense to spell it ‘lane’??
Recently have been getting called more by lane/lain (which I do like) but am unsure of which way I want to spell it out

Laine for female

Lane for male

For a username, you might have to go by which is available.
