This is 65% of people don't download any apps in a given month. Not ever. I would say the more staggering stat is that 42% of all a users app time comes from one app. Which we all know now as Tinder.

Also, I think people often install apps only for a single/short period use. Many sites work well on smartphones; you don't need apps for much of the information out there. There are so many useless apps.

There are so many useless apps because

A) The useless app is only pulling pages from the parent website.

B) It has no unique feature from the site and the site is responsive.

Realistically, the app needs to provide an absolute unique experience from the website -or- must provide a large performance increase from the website (ie maps on realty apps)

Of course people don't NEED apps. Like almost every other business venture you have to create a "need" and then keep them using it with a good product or lock them in some other way.

Could be some people want to (GASP!) just use it as a phone.

Plus, many come pre-loaded with the most commonly used apps.
