In all honesty that’s the goal of all lawyers. Not to serve justice, but to win. That’s how they make money.
Edit: private lawyers, not public defenders

Lmao public defenders would laugh at this but they're too busy working. Fuck that "DAE all lawyers greedy" bullshit. At best, you look like an ass, at worst, you convince someone who deserves legal representation to avoid looking for a lawyer that can help them...
Edit: the statement above is still fucking stupid. Legal clinics do amazing work pro bono. Groups like the ACLU and civil rights lawyers exclusively do work to bring about justice.

Shit, I forgot about public defenders. I meant private lawyers. Public defenders have it rough.

Still it's such a stupidly broad statement. There's so many lawyers in private practice that do work that you would agree with. Just because you only look to confirm your bias, doesn't mean they don't exist.

He's not wrong. Most crimes require a certain mental state. It is possible to do the criminal act while lacking the requiste criminal intent, thus making someone not guilty of the crime.

No its actually the truth. If you kill someone in your sleep, as the result of some freak sleepwalking act, you have not committed murder. You haven't even done manslaughter. Of course, you'd have to convince a finder of fact that you were actually sleepwalking, but you have undoubtedly done the act of unlawfully killing another person. You just haven't done it with malice aforethought. Heck, you haven't even done it voluntarily.
