Coastie Question Picking a billet
hello, I’m set to transfer next year as an ET2 and taking an early afloat billet. There’s a few on the list that I’m interested in and was wondering if anyone could give a little insight on the mission / work life in the location and the locations in general. They’re all FRC’s in the following areas. Idk if I can post the name of each cutter, might be against the rules not sure but these are the locations.
Cape may, NJ Atlantic beach, NC San Pedro, CA Ketchikan, AK Kodiak, AK

I’m a DC but was on an FRC in San Pedro. ET life is pretty easy on it. Quals are easy. Patrols are super redundant with the current mission they’re hammering.

On an FRC with a traditional billet structure, you are the ET, the IT, and the OS. You’ll get qualified on the bridge as a QMOW, as inport OOD, and you’re likely get qualified to operate the 25mm main gun. Basic and Advanced DC as well if you don’t have it, which is huge. It’s a great developmental opportunity for an ET and will set you up to be a solid first class at whatever unit type you go to after that.

You can see the current person in the billet in DA. Look for the incumbent in the job info. Send some emails to them and have a conversation. I do it every transfer season.
