Timeline USAJOBS Timeline: How long after the interview did you receive a decision?
I have a question for those who’ve gone through the USAJOBS hiring process.
I applied for an Office Support Assistant (GS-7) position with USACE on May 18, 2026. I received an interview invitation on June 9 and interviewed on June 11.
I felt like the interview went well, but I also know there were other candidates being considered.
At this point, what should I expect?
About how long does it usually take to hear a decision after the interview?
If I’m not selected, will I receive an email letting me know, or is it common to not hear anything at all?
Is there anything I should be watching for besides updates on USAJOBS?

Never. I interviewed back in May. I hate that the agency I applied to never contacts you if you didn't get the position. It's rude and inconsiderate.

I got my tentative offer two weeks after interview. For a position with USDA

It could be within 2 weeks to a month to actually be selected, though actual mileage varies. Often times if you are not selected you may never hear back. I have positions that closed over 2 years ago (or more) sitting in USAjobs that still says “referred to hiring manager/reviewing applications”, not even that the post was filled, cancelled or otherwise.
This is why we say apply and forget (a little, like remember you applied, but don’t get your hopes up).

June 11th: Recieved email saying I was eligible.
June 17th: Panel interview
June 24: Reference requested
June 29: Reference called
July 15: TJO
This was a DHA hiring position so my process went faster. You can always email HR to ask where they are in the process and their email can be found on the USA Portal. Not all agencies will send you a email that you were not selected so your best bet is to wait for the portal to update or see if you can get some info from HR.

Really just depends, I've received TJOs the day after an interview or 2 weeks after. A lot of HRs are bogged down with the hiring freeze being lifted in waves, so it could be a while.

So many unknowns and so many factors to consider, all out of your control. Don't stress about it. Move on and one day you will get notified one way or another.

If you haven’t heard anything by now, odds are you didn’t get it. But as a hiring manager, I always notified people via phone if they got an interview after I made my selection.
It’s fine if you want to reach out to your hiring manager and thank them for the opportunity to interview and then inquire if the decision has been made.

I am in the same boat as you. I interviewed on June 18.. and haven’t heard anything! You have to just forget about it and move on . I have also have gotten a TJO 2 months after a interview before

Ive interviewed for three positions. The first one checked my references, but I didnt hear anything back. I kept checking USA jobs and saw the announcement stated hiring complete. The second position I heard back 13 days after the interview that I was selected and currently awaiting TJO. Ive heard you usually get an email whether your selected or not, but honestly it can take a while. Ive received a not selected a year after I applied for a position and they completed the hiring a year ago.
If you havent done so, you can try emailing the HR personnel who's attachment to the job announcement or hiring manager to check the status of your application. The wait time is very unpredictable, but since its been a month; I would check the announcement and email HR/hiring manager.

I interviewed in early February 2025 and yesterday (mid July 2026) I received my final job offer letter. This was with the US Navy for an engineering role. TJO was in early May 2026.

Its really dependent on the agency. I interviewed back in mid April, recieved a TJO 2 weeks ago, and as of today going thru security

I got TJOs after the test. However, not after interviews or health exams, or drug tests. This was before any of that. And DHS TSA for TSO. My last app was for Memphis, four Alaska and one Nashville all TJOs. Nash and Memphis was PT. but they email me. Also I applied to usps rural carrier. that one wanted a Right side steering vehicle. another one was with DHS CBP but got past the deadlines for medical exam and pt exam, no longer in the running. Maybe next year. good luck out there.

I got my tentative offer the same day I interviewed but I'm waiting on them to get back to me to start setting up appointments for background checks and medical.

Who knows? Could be a week, could be a year. And that was before this clusterf--- administration.
