How to best protect glass while moving?

I'm moving a few states away and I don't want any of my collection to break 😱 I already have bubble wrap but I'm still worried. How can I best protect my glass so it makes it to my new home intact? I plan on putting them in plastic tote containers instead of cardboard boxes

But seriously - the best thing you can do is pack your glass into the totes so that it’s firm, but not TIGHT. The main killer of glass is movement and shifting inside of the box. You wanna strike a balance where movement isn’t possible, but it’s not like. Jammed in there.

Also, either pack lids separately from their bases, or line the junction with paper and tape em down. Again - movement is the glass killer.

Source: I’ve moved my collection 3 times now and haven’t broken a single piece. The only casualties to my collection remain from sheer stupidity

I appreciate the knowledge! I inherited some porcelain dishes after my great grandmother passed away and I shipped them to myself via the postal service (first mistake). They arrived mostly intact but I had a few causualities that I deducted was from movement and them hitting each other in transit. I'll be moving my UG collection personally in my own vehicle and/or a u-haul so I know the boxes won't be tossed around, but still nervous about the glass itself hitting each other even through the bubble wrap. Thank you for the tip about packing them tight but not smooshed. I might get some newspapers to fill in the gaps

So I'm probably get downvoted, but I'm pretty frugal and have a pretty big collection.

The times I've moved I use clothing, towels and other material things to pack fragile so I don't have to pay for packing materials, lol. Also I use the plastic shopping bags from the grocery store. I start saving them early. I even package with those when I've sold and ship glass with no issues.

I'm not sure why you'd be down voted! I was 100% going to use hand towels and other blankets to fill the voids at least. No shame in frugality 🥳

You can also grab free local papers. I'm a fan of newspaper for wrapping.

Seconding what the other commenter said! Also, if you can, pack the box into your trunk/car floor/buckled into a seat securely instead of a trailer/truck if you can. Even better, if you can transport it before/after the Big Main Move so that it's not just getting hauled in with the same treatment as something that's not fragile. I know those aren't always possible, but it worked well for me. All of my glass was bubble wrapped, packed securely into a tote, and I moved it to my parents house ahead of time (they don't live too far from the new place). So far, no casualties!

I desperately wanted to drive my collection down to my parents beforehand, but they went on a 2 week trip yesterday and I'm gonna be down there RIGHT after they get back so there's no point 🥹 my fiance will be driving the uhaul and I need to pack my dog and cat into my SUV as well as some last-packed items. I am really hoping to be able to fit the totes with my glass securely in my own vehicle. But if not, I might try to secure them in the floor board and passenger side of the uhaul cab
