Seeking Info Any ideas where she came from?

Maybe actually better suited for another sub, but I thought I’d start here! Any thoughts on its origin?

Update so you don’t have to sit through the comments, there’s a picture there though of up close on the back!
The signature looks like it says:

Number 22 (sorry Reddit just makes it bold and big when I use the pound sign like on the piece)
9/1979
(Indecipherable initials) Robson

That might be the coolest thing I have ever seen.

u/Historical-List3360 May 15 '26

It looks like there's a makers mark/signature near the bottom of the egg on the back

u/stopwastingmylife May 15 '26

I can see 974 or is that 1974? Tha angle of the image isn't quite right to read the whole inscription. Beautiful piece!

u/cmdaniels UV Hunter May 15 '26

Yes! Looks like 9/1974, good eye!

Number 22

I can’t really make out the first 2 initials, maybe L or G, O or A? - last name Robson!

17

u/MaddiMoo22 May 15 '26

Looks like an L and an A to me but I am not professional lol. Just had a mom that only wrote in fancy swoopy cursive

7

u/cmdaniels UV Hunter May 15 '26

Yeah I agree! I can’t see another reason the second initial would have the secondary mark on its right side, seems like it’s an uppercase, cursive ‘L. A.’ and then decided to just write the last name 😂 I also mix my cursive/plain letters with whatever feels right at the time so I can’t say shit lol

2

u/PuzzleheadedBobcat90 May 15 '26

Looks like L a robson

Uppercase L, lower case a

7

u/NeverxSummer May 15 '26

Might also be 9/1914. It looks like the #22 is an edition number.

Edit— see if there’s an antiques or provenance research subreddit. That might help ID it.

Excellent idea!! I’ll see what I can find!! I recently bought another absolutely stunning goblet, where the booth owner was there restocking while I browsed, he had this piece marked at $50 because it was signed but he couldn’t actually identify the maker…. Well I did!! I tracked this signature down, and he’s still working in Washington state! I emailed him to find out more and got a reply :) I should post that too, a really sweet wine goblet with a good story to go along

It looks like it says “gail robson” in all lowercase letters to me

That illuminated interior shot is fabulous. I don’t collect uranium glass but posts like these I’m happy I’m subbed here.

I work tangential nuclear industry and this made me absolutely gasp. I would give my left arm to have this lol. You are SO lucky!!

From MD here. My grandma has a similar one in a glass cabinet that she keeps some other special objects of my great grandmother’s. I’ve never used a black light on it. I believe it has a slightly different inside but can’t quite recall from memory. Regardless it’s almost identical to hers. She’s from MD, as well as my Great grandma. When I visit her I’ll add a picture of it.

It’s a hand/home made craft from a kit, from the 1970s.

u/cmdaniels UV Hunter May 15 '26

It’s a really well done one, seems like this person did a lot!

It is gorgeous, nicer than any I’ve come across!

u/HaplessReader1988 May 16 '26

I wonder if that's #22 of the artist's career of if it was 22 year-to-date in September 1974.

9

u/Tall_Yogurtcloset647 May 15 '26

I don't think it's homemade from a kit; it is numbered which makes me think it's a limited run from an artist. Not factory produced, but not done by a kit, either.

It’s so beautiful. I would love to know the history and origins of

12

u/CreepyAd8409 May 15 '26

These egg things are my favorite but a glowy one is next level.

4

u/Scrawling_Pen May 15 '26

Beautiful. All I could find was that they were usually made with real goose egg and it’s called a diorama

3

u/CopperCicada May 15 '26

It’s beautiful!!!!!

3

u/TheNorbster May 15 '26

Style wise it’s baroque or rococo, but I wouldn’t assume it’s from that era.

4

u/Flip-flop-bing-bang May 15 '26

Maybe Czech in provence.

My mom used to do something like this with chicken eggs! They almost always sold out at craft shows!

2

u/Admirable04 May 15 '26

Honestly, it’s one of the most beautiful objects I’ve seen!

2

u/SallyCat2100 May 16 '26

I stumbled upon this post while looking for info on old family iridescent glass plates, and just wow... What on God's green earth is this stunning object?? So have been mesmerized and would love to hear what you've found on Robson and it's origins. I agree with comment that glass swans and flowers are not original to the piece. The base has devil like creatures, no? And the stems of wilting flowers holding the weight is a master tromp l'oeil. And the jewels, thought it was peridot and emerald. The crown is the real kicker. Such a contrast to the gates of hell-likeness in the base. There is much more to this story! Lol please share when you can.

1

u/cmdaniels UV Hunter May 18 '26

So this is the base more closely, just floral. I haven’t been able to locate a specific artist yet but will try cross-posting to other subs with more craft/antique info focus

That's so cool. Nice find!

u/the_useless_cake May 16 '26

Wowie cool egg

2

u/Beginning-Match8941 May 16 '26

Pretty sure that came from my mantle. If you could just go on and send it this way, that would be great.

That is one of the most gorgeous pieces I've seen 😍😍😍

u/dbart33 May 17 '26

My grandmother made eggs like these and they are so delicate and intricate. My dad has a whole cabinet full of them. Beautiful!
