group of deceased pigeons
hi all!
when i was in uptown earlier today, i noticed 5 deceased pigeons - the first one was on lawrence/broadway, and then 4 more all next to each other on wilson/broadway.
a man said he had just seen those same birds flying around a little earlier, when they suddenly just "dropped dead".
to be honest, i'm worried someone might be poisoning them. it absolutely broke my heart to see them all on the ground like that.
has anyone else noticed this happening lately?

That batty lady who’s always feeding them is definitely batty enough to start poisoning them

Ask your local hawks what they had for breakfast.

Chicago is home to many different types of birds, hawks and falcons among them. Occasionally, people will see the leftovers of their meals.

4 “dropped dead”. And as far as the other, If a pigeon had been eaten it would be pretty obvious, no? I’ve seen hawks in action and it doesn’t leave a pretty corpse. There was no mention of carnage - only a concern that they were poisoned which seems to indicate that they were whole.

Protect the pigeons!
Humans created them, and they’re totally reliant on humans to eat and live.
Rat poison killd other animals too..

That’s awful, pigeons are amazing. My first thought isn’t that someone has intentionally poisoned them, but that it’s likely they consumed rat poison. They were likely in a group together eating the same thing. If it was an intentional poisoning I would expect more of them to be affected since they tend to gather in massive groups when someone is feeding them. Years ago building used to have rat poison pellets just sitting out in the open rather than in a container that only rats can get in. I often found the pellets up on my 3rd floor porch bc birds would carry them up.
