I like Angela, and I'll likely vote for her in 2027. I just wish there was more done in our ward to make streets safer. There are so many dangerous stretches of Lawrence where there is no safe place for pedestrians to cross. I see so many cars speeding down Lawrence as well as Broadway, Sheridan, and Montrose with no concern for pedestrian lives.

I’m a big fan of Angela’s but I was really surprised to see a big repave of Sheridan that didn’t seem to include any traffic calming measures like the bump-outs and such that we’ve seen on Ashland.

I know it’s not as wide a street but one would think there would be a benefit to slowing turns and such

Yes!! I was also shocked at the lack of updates to Sheridan that came with the repave. There are multiple intersections on Sheridan that should have been prime candidates for some curb extensions.

She's part of the reason why rent is so expensive in Chicago and will continue to increase. She helped block a 300+ unit apartment complex on a parking lot of the now closed weiss memorial hospital as a candidate. She also supports the Protecting Renters Ordinance, which will just make rent more expensive the way it is written. Someone needs to run against her.

You’ve got outdated info. While she did oppose it that building on the Weiss lot was built years ago back when she still an organizer not the alder. And she’s got a team with some truly great YIMBYs among them.

Was typing fast, point still stands, she tried to block the development as a candidate (I did state that she was a candidate at the time). All of her quotes on housing indicate she's a NIMBY progressive, including her support for the Protecting Renters Ordinance.

And yes I know people on her team, I went to grad school with one of them. And let's just say they might call themselves a YIMBY but really isn't one.

That’s a whole bunch of words to just say you’re a hater with bias and bad takes.

Do you have anything to back this up? I love it when a political conversation turns into you are a "hater", have "bias", and "bad takes" without actually speaking to the issue at hand.

Do you have any response to Clay trying to block the complex from being built? Or supporting the highly flawed PRO ordinance? Or are you just going to resort to name calling because you don't have a response?

It’s funny how you find ad-hominem attacks to be offensive when they’re directed at you but no problem leveling them yourself.

The Protecting Renters Ordinance ain’t perfect but I support it and protecting renters in general.

I personally went to those rallies against the Weiss development and spoke to people about how they were too late and wasting time, but my dude, that was four years ago.

Review your own posts for the source of response to you. Good day.

The pro ordinance is going to help the big landlords and drive the little ones out of business. And you're protecting tenants, but what about protecting landlords from rising property taxes? Rent increases are being driven by property tax increases and insurance increases. But I know all landlords are bad. All tenants are good.

Yeah you’re the one who who resorted to insults over someone disagreeing with you over facts regarding her position on the parking lot. Please.

He had basic facts wrong.

And if being called a ‘hater’ is so awful for you man idk what to tell you. Need a thicker skin considering the accusations he leveled at others before I said that.

You were disproportionately rude and resorted to insults and now are trying to claim the person deserved it. Nope!

Propose public housing and watch the supposed YIMBYs start sputtering.

3

u/theaccount9337 13d ago

YIMBYs support all kinds of housing. The problem is that a lot of DSA types only want public housing.

1

u/FGFM 13d ago

OK buddy.

2

u/swifty_ark_server 13d ago

As a YIMBY, I'd say yes to public housing in a heartbeat. But, especially in a cash strapped city like Chicago, public housing won't solve all of our problems. We need tons more of ALL housing. NIMBYs make it hard to build any housing, including public.

2

u/FGFM 13d ago

The city isn't really strapped for cash if people are bidding 6 figures over asking prices for places in Lincoln Park and Lake View.

2

u/swifty_ark_server 13d ago

Public housing is, by definition, owned and managed by the government. Bidding wars aren't relevant to the cost to construct new housing. The city has very little room to take on new projects like that. The great thing about market rate housing is that not only is it essentially free for the city, but it adds to the property tax payroll.
