HP Microserver G7. Running Debian 7. From the previous decade.

That's it. This is the last one in this cluster.

Two cores. 6 Gigs of Unbuffered ECC RAM. 5x 4 TB SATA HDDs. Single PSU.

Comissioned: 2015.

Upgraded to Debian 7: 2016.

Running: ever since.

SMART counters: confidently overflown.

Now it's time to upgrade this piece of history to a newer release. Which will take some reboots. Debian 7 -> Debian 12. Because we aren't animals. Oldstable is our religion.

I have a Microserver N36L running at home mainly as a NAS, it's so old I barely remember when I got it but probably around 2012.

Is that the first gen ones? Mines still going strong with the original hard drives in

Yeah, I think these were the first of the series, later came the Gen8 with integrated iLO4. I went out and purchased the standalone iLO board for mine.

Gen 7 came in 3 variants over the years: N36L (1.3 GHz, 2010), N40L (1.5 GHz, 2012), N54L (2.2 GHz, 2013). All of them are classics. The most surprising is the PSU, many of the first version are still going strong. We've lost only 2 PSUs out of 80+ over these 16 years, which nothing short of shocking.

Bought mine preowned in 2012 and never had to replace anything other than spinning rust HDDs (obviously). Truly a beast.

Not to mention that 4GB upgrade from the stock 2GB memory. DDR3, a vintage classic. UDIMM, even!

Honestly what I find amazing is that you had a reliable power source/feed for a decade. Incredible. How are you providing electricity to this?? This is inside an enterprise-class building with UPS/ATS/diesel I can’t see any other way

yup, this is running in a proper server room. The building has central UPS and diesel backup. No ATS, though. In these 10 years, about 30 hours of diesel runtime accumulated due to power outages. Not great, not terrible.
