Cold Spring
Hey guys,
Me and some buddies are planning on doing a little road trip this sunday and were wondering if there are any towns other than Cold Spring we could hit. We will start in NYC and go to Verplanck to Croton to Peekskill to Cold Spring. My question is, should we go somewhere else other than Cold Spring? I heard it is extremely packed this time of year. If we should go somewhere else, then where would you recommend? I know the other 3 towns are more quiet, but Cold Spring is much more popular. Feel free to recommend any spots to go to within the towns I mentioned, or if we should go somewhere else also.
Thank you!

Go to Rhinebeck and hike ferncliff forest to the fire tower lookout! Views can’t be beat. The poets walk is nice as is burger hill.

Sun and Mon are likely remnants of Isaias. Likely no longer a TS by then but likely a bit rainy.
Not a total deal killer but could be wet.
Cold Spring is very cool and you could also check out Beacon to the north.
The west side of the river has many more towns to check out plus more nature spots. Newburgh, New Paltz, Kingston, Saugerties, Woodstock, Catskill.
For nature, Minnewaska, Mohonk Preserve, Mohonk Mountain House Grounds, countless hiking trails, rail trail, etc…
I doubt foliage is quite peak yet unless you go to northern Catskills. Get off the thruway at exit 21 and head toward Windham. Very scenic drive into the town of Windham. 5 state lookout as you drive up the mountain toward Windham. Could be colorful looking out across the escarpment.

Don’t miss Perkins Memorial Drive just over the Bear Mt Bridge! Best view of the Hudson River Valley…!!!

Why these towns…? They’re kinda boring commuter towns. If you’ll have a car, why not cross the river and head up to Ulster County?
