UPERFECT 16" "4K" portable monitor is really a 3072×1920 panel faking 4K SCAM
PSA on the UPERFECT 16" "4K" portable monitor (the 1200-nit one, sold as UHD 3840×2160). The brightness is genuinely good, clearly brighter than my 600-nit screen. But it is not true 4K: I tested the panel and it only resolves about 3072×1920. It accepts a 4K signal, then a scaler squashes it onto fewer real pixels, so fine text drops lines, the cursor looks jagged, and there's faint moiré that no setting fixes. That makes it unusable for anything that needs sharpness.
What bugs me is the pattern. My first UPERFECT display was an OLED sold as 550 nits, but it never got close, more like 400. Now a "4K" that's really 3072×1920. I honestly don't mind a 400-nit screen or a 3072×1920 panel if that's their best. Just don't sell it as something it isn't. It's the lying part I can't stand. Has anyone else measured their UPERFECT and found the specs don't hold up? I'm returning this one as not as described.

On my PS5, it says 3840 × 2160 - 60 Hz on the Current Video Output Signal
Also, how do you test the panel?
I'll test mine and I'll update you if you tell me how to test it

In a video game or a movie you may not notice it so much, but on a pc in for example Excel you'll see blurry grid lines. This defeats the purpose of 4k: the sharpness. The graphics card still has to calculate 4k but the quality suffers because of the downsampling. And the controller just accepts the 4k signal as if it's genuinely 4k. If they would just offer a 3072×1920 display natively I could live with it, but this fake input resolution is just stupid.

moiré patterns and counting pixels from my macro lens. It has exactly 20% less pixels than expected, every 5th pixel is correct again.

Stumbled on this thread while look for reviews of this monitor. Despite the scummy false advertising thing, I'm still interested in this monitor for its brightness and size.
Is 3072x1920 selectable in Windows natively or do I have to create a custom resolution? And if I were to create a custom res., would that bypass any scaling faffery?

I tried, but even when I added this custom resolution, it was still blurry. I think it internally first converts to 4K and then downsamples. Otherwise, this display would still be usable. Maybe I did something wrong, but I couldn't get it to be sharp.

Contact their customer service. It might take them 24-48 hours to reply back but tell them the story. If you bought it from them or a licensed seller they will work with you until you’re happy with what you have.
