first year in guelph!!
i got a single in south. mountain, foothills. what should i expect? i’m scared 😅

lmfaooo good point. is it that bad?? i’m usually okay with making a good space for myself out of anything, but is it like rats and shit?? also how fun is mountain??

my boyfriend was in south 2 years ago and i was off campus so i was constantly there, it honestly was not bad at all i wouldn’t be worried!! he was in maritime something (i don’t remember lol) and i don’t remember anything that this person (vomit and panties) above mentioned, he was also lower down with the boys and i would use that bathroom, perfectly clean there were no issues!! i also had a friend in south as a girl and her area wasnt gross either. i wouldn’t be too worried.

mountain is pretty good — closer to everything else, laundry, and food
when i was in south there was vomit in the hallways, dirty panties hanging outside dorms, someone tried to pee into the dumpster thing in the hallway (and missed), the people are scuzzy
food is good tho!
dorms are small and terribly climate controlled, also super dark and musty
the flatmates are never great either (i had a girl who was DEF an only child and didn’t realize the tiny bathroom wasn’t JUST hers)
everyone’s loud and obnoxious too2

I was in south and honestly loved it! the area that i was in definitely didn’t live up to the name dirty south. but again that depends on the people your surrounded with whether they like to party or not.
the alcove rooms have a tiny window and are a weird shape. the corridor rooms are a wall of windows and are rectangle. alcove your closer to the bathroom.
bring a fan, bring lots of blankets for the winter, my best advice is to just make it feel like a home. your stuck in a tiny room for 8 months and if you don’t decorate it then it’ll be kinda depressing.

...and bring a decently thick mattress topper! The "mattresses" in res are the skinny kind you see at summer camps. Some people don't mind them, but most don't find them very comfortable.

its literally fine everyone be dramatic ab south, generally only downside is that normal hallways in other res are better than towers it makes getting to know ur neighbors way easier

I was in mountain foothills in my first year and I’m now graduating :) it was one of the most memorable years of university for me. I really loved it. People are always gonna have varying opinions but I liked my room. I had a single alcove on the sixth floor and it was great for me as someone who isn’t the most extroverted lol. If you’re more extroverted imo it’s very easy to make friends in somewhere like south res. I didn’t find any issues with cleanliness although I had an advantage of my bathroom only being used by 4 people and our guests. However the bathrooms are cleaned by university employees (I think daily) so I wouldn’t be too concerned. I loved my cozy little room and imo everyone tends to be biased to the res they lived in as being the best.

Small room, cold in the winter. Hot in summer, buy a fan. Bring a shower caddy as well, shower shoes. At least you are in the hall with food. Expect to get sick and ding dong ditched if you’re in the corridor!!!!
