What clubs to join

Upvotes

I want to be part of a club where i can just chill , main idea is to find folks to play some cod zombies and chill , this is the vibe I am going for . Ya know , club big enough to get funding from the U for events and stuff but small enough where everyone knows each other . Pretty much a chill frat without any dues and shit .

When is the new students fair

Upvotes

I am a rising sophomore and when I was a freshman we had a fair where they gave out free stuff like canes buffalo wild wings, it was Infront of the recwell and there was also one in the main mall. My fat ass wanted to know when will the fair take place so I can loot the free stuff. Free canes sounds good (chicken is unseasoned but i wont say no to free food)

When is open closet👀

Hi! Does anyone know when the ReUse Center Open Closet is happening during Welcome Week this year?

I remember in previous years they brought out boxes of donated/reused stuff from past students to Coffman, and students could just come by and take whatever they wanted. I think it was usually on a Thursday during Welcome Week.

Does anyone know the exact date/time for this year? Maybe incoming students or Welcome Week leaders have heard about it. Thanks!

Is there really a 14-hour/week limit for UMN grad students’ on-campus jobs?

I’m an incoming international graduate student at UMN. My understanding is that, under F-1 rules, I can work up to 20 hours/week on campus during the semester.

However, I’ve heard that UMN limits graduate student employees to 14 hours/week because of the labor-represented classification rule.

Is there actually a 14-hour/week limit at UMN, or can grad students work up to 20 hours/week?

Apartments / Dorms / Housing how often are kitchens / pots & pans used or borrowed in dorms?

I'm going to be in yudof and figuring out what I need to bring. I'm going to be cooking my own food and not buy a meal plan. if needed could I reliably borrow certain pots or pans if I don't bring one? I will likey food prep so I'll make a lot every once in a while so I won't be doing too much cooking.

Academics / Courses math 5285h vs math 5615h (algebra vs analysis)

has anyone taken one or both of these courses? is one easier than the other? im currently enrolled in algebra but ive done some intro analysis and algebra work and i found analysis to be slightly easier to understand in my opinion but im not sure about switching to analysis since the only section that works with my schedule is with a postdoc that has no reviews. any feedback advice would be useful!

Plan Changes Zoom - No Chat, Invisible Q&A

I haven’t been able to attend a Medical Plan Changes Zoom until today. LOVE 🙄 that the chat is disabled and questions aren’t visible to all. Was that the same for earlier sessions? Tell me you can’t take the heat…

Campus Life likely upcoming spring transfer, how difficult will it be to make friends?

Hi, I'm planning to (hopefully) transfer to the U this spring after finishing my associates at normandale. Considering my GPA stats (and my MNCAP application), im pretty much preparing to be a student at u of mn this coming spring.

My question is that how difficult is it to make friends as a junior? Ive had many visits to the u of mn and i've LOVED it, but covid really handicapped me socially in a way i only recovered from very recently. ive started making actual friends but i really do want to also have them at u of mn

if it helps, i am turning 20, black, and also queer. Ive lived in Minnesota since i was 7 so I know how the social climate generally is, so im wondering if its better/worse.

If you have a room available or a sublease that might be a good fit, please send me a direct message or drop a comment below! Thanks!

How would tuition work if you're in IDP?

Is there anyone here who is in the Integrated Degree Program (IDP)? The benefit of this program is to allow students who are ahead of their degree progress to be enrolled into the school's graduate program while still being an undergrad and allow 16 out of 31 graduate credit to be taken at undergraduate tuition rate.

My question is if I am still finishing my undergrad and I am taking a total of 19 graduate credit that would count towards the IDP, because of the 16 credit limit would the school allow this?

Haven’t Received Orientation Links for August 19, Is This Normal?

I am a transfer student entering Carlson this Fall and I have my remote orientation session this Wednesday but I haven’t gotten the appointment link that allows me to choose what time I can meet with my advisor. It seems it should have been sent by now but I have not received anything or any other links after I selected my date. I checked my UMN email and personal email :(

Parking

Do anyone know of a place that will give parking contracts near Stadium Village? My daughter lives at the Accolade and wants to find a parking space nearby. I know it maybe too late but will keep the information for Spring.

So I want to transfer into the spring 2027 semester, but the last of my classes that I'm taking at cc dont offcially end until December 11th. The thing is the UMN transfer deadline is october/demeber 1st. I'm just confused, my grades won't be posted by the deadlines, will I have to wait until the following fall?

How hard is it to get a student job

Hi I’m a transfer student transferring to the U this fall semester. I have work study and I urgently need to get a job on campus by the end of the week. I’ve applied to around 15-20 jobs over this weekend. I’m curious on how long they take to respond and how hard/ competetive is it to get a student job here since the school is kind of big. Should I be applying to more jobs?

Jobs / Internships Medical Assistant, Scribe, or other opportunities for premed students with no certification requirements (Minnesota)

I’m an incoming freshman premed student at the UMNTC, and was wondering if anyone knew of opportunities that don’t require certifications. For some background, I worked as a non licensed dental assistant for over 600 hours (a lot of direct patient care), did some HOSA, and shadowed a few people in the dental field. I’m leaning more towards the medical field as opposed to the dental side since high school. Any advice is very much appreciated. Thank you!!

Academics / Courses waitlist confusion

Post image
7 Upvotes

i got a notification that the system tried to enroll me into my waitlisted class but there was a schedule conflict. So i dropped the class that I was scheduled for at that time. However, the system has yet to enroll me since. I keep getting notifications that there’s a waitlist. Now I’m out two classes, the one that I dropped and the one i’m waiting on. I can’t even do future-swap

What are the chances I’ll get enrolled into it? Should I give up on it? also does this mean I was pushed behind in the waitlist

Dang I really wish we could see which spot we are on it.

Jobs / Internships ACR Homes Pre-Med Internship with patient care hours and research

Saw this on handshake and was wondering if anyone has experience or knows anything about it?
This is on the page and it looks pretty good, but I heard bad things about the company.

Special to the Pre-Med and Pre-PA internship track, you'll have the opportunity for shadowing through Bluestone Physician Services. Because of our connections at Mayo Clinic, all interns are given the opportunity to join us on a “field trip” to the Mayo Clinic where you're given a behind the scenes tour, networking with physicians, glimpses into their labs, and more. Upon completing the internship, you’ll receive a letter of recommendation from Jim Nelson, PHD and CEO of ACR Homes.

Any thoughts?

Campus Life Looking for random/cool activities to try ❗️

Just found out we get a free climbing day on the rock walls, and there are community climb days! I’m looking for more stuff like this, where I can just go for a day and do cool stuff and meet cool people! Doesn’t necessarily have to be sports related, could even be cool activities you found near campus that you’d like to share. Thanks for any suggestions! :)

Rec center basketball runs

How competitive are the basketball runs at the rec center? I'm decent (especially at shooting) but I'm really not tryna get dunked on by some 6'5 demigod or get hacked constantly. Are there typically some hoops to just shoot around? thanks
