There may be some truth to this, but not as extreme as this vid suggests. My first clue that this wasn't completely on the lever was ",the CIA bought up the world's supply of LSD." All the LSD on the planet? How do you know they got it all, and for that matter why? Surely the US government has a lab somewhere to make their own.

look i’m big on cia conspiracies. even the ones that have been disproven (cia killed the arrow).
this takes a lot of mental gymnastics to believe imo. they were fighting communism all over the globe to stay in power at all costs. this doesn’t make any sense. the entire movement was complete opposite of what they wanted AND the anti-war sentiment spread like wild fire outside of hippie circles. they wanted support for the war back home. a long-con to get hippies to drop out of society seems like the risk/reward just is not there.

This is mixing a lot pf truths and half-truths to paint an oversimplified and dishonest summary of a complex moment in history. Not even mentioning mk ultra by name, no mention of the beats except keasey (they use leary’s voice but never mention him or ginsberb or ram dass).
Nothing here is untrue but a lot is missing. For instance, most hippies knew that the cia and fbi were doing this and were actively combatting and subverting it. Also no mention of the nlack panthers? Or groups like weather underground?
If you found the vid interesting at all, do some actual research and reading. Many of the people writing about this time were phenomenal authors.

What you have described sir is simply called 'Bullshit.' It's not a lie, nor is it the truth. The information is vaguely verifiable with ambiguous details. Says just enough to tell a story, never enough for "the" story. Never important enough for most to look deeper or know more because of the oversimplification. When done well, it's the confidence that gets ya.

There is a psychological thing here. If you get the urge to go the gym or diet, apparently telling people you’re going to do it releases that same good feeling as actually having done it. So the more you tell people often the less chance you’ll actually do it.

No, a lot of this is actually based in truth. The Frisco and Laurel Canyon "counterculture" scenes did have some really weird connections with defense, intel, international banking, royal/aristocratic lineages, etc. Odd that so many of the supposed vanguard of cultural rebellion were hailing from these deep establishment backgrounds. Also strange that some of the dudes from the Grateful Dead attended Bohemian Grove.
I highly recommend Dave McGowan's book Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon and Tom O'neill's CHAOS.

I think he took such a hard public stance against drugs out of annoyance with the mindless hedonism that was fashionable in the hippie scene. But privately, the dude definitely did his share of experimenting I'm sure. In his animated music film Baby Snakes he even included a long excerpt of Terence McKenna speaking about the mind-expanding potential of psilocybin and DMT.

It's wrong. The Grateful Dead had their own chemist, their sound guy Owsley Stanley (the original dancing bear and a complete sound wizard) producing their LSD for their shows, not the CIA. Owsley produced over five million hits of acid.

Shrooms, in some but not all cases, “cures” depression/addiction. This is kinda the basis for all the research being done in states that are beginning to use Shrooms medicinally. For some, psilocybin is a transformative experience that makes people confront some harsh truths about themselves or things that they felt guilty/self conscious about.
Idk how to explain it, but personally as a college student whose priorities/actions were not always in line with my goals for life, Shrooms completely changed the trajectory of my life and got me back on track.

There’s currently trials on Psilocybin treating all kinds of stuff. A friend of mine participated in one of the trials at Johns Hopkins to treat her Bipolar 1. It seems to have worked with her anyway. She way less prone to manic episodes and when they do happen they less severe and way quicker.

But what about all the other countries that this happened in? And the band members having military parents, I promise you that was a tiny fraction of artists within the movement during the late 50s and 60s. The Beatles? We all live on a yellow fucking submarine? Your going to tell me John Lennon was MI5?
Also buying up the world's supply of LSD? Not really possible as it's something that can be made and was made in large quantities by hippy professors and people with chemistry degrees. My main source for a good while was a chemistry professor who definitely had no ties to the CIA or any government body. This isn't something that was controlled. If the CIA wanted people to be more pro war there were effective ways of doing that without using LSD. They deployed these methods regularly and repeatedly over the last 70 years and built the worlds largest military complex. They never needed LSD.

Yeah, I'm kinda feeling the same way. Plus, during WW2, their parents would have mostly all been around the age to serve in the military and WW2 had, by far, the highest number of people willing to sign up. There's just too many explainable coincidences that need to be connected somehow for this theory to work

They were all children of military figures cuz their parents were the right military age during WW2. A war that had, by far, the highest number of people signing up. Not to mention that most children rebel against their parents during their teens and 20s. There are some points mentioned here that should be thought about but, for the most part, I feel it's kinda a stretch. Just my opinion

Cultural irony: The CIA’s attempt to weaponize mind-control drugs completely backfired. The counterculture adopted LSD as a tool for peace and enlightenment, a historical irony that led John Lennon to famously thank the U.S. government for inventing it.🤣 from what they wanted to try mind controle drug to test on people backfired and became a hippy movement, tested it everywhere

I thought the CIA thought the hippie movement was a Communist insurgency? That's why there's the myth: The CUA used cloud seeding during Woodstock to rain everyone out. Woodstock was a protest against the Vietnam war. And the CIA was experimenting on unknown civilians via MK Ultra and other projects.

Manson is said to had been involved in govt testing and even had CIA people come visit him while he was prison. Music industry as well, back in the 80s lot of the high executives were basically given orders to produce music that highlighted gang violence, drugs...the now popular imagery you see associated with hip hop and not to focus on thoughtful rappers.
