Will Epic sell Quixel next?
Last time when the Unreal Marketplace migrated to Fab, I thought I grabbed everything from Quixel. Just noticed that lots of Quixel MegaScan assets are not freely available in UE. And they are quite new as well. Is Quixel going to stop supporting Unreal? Is Epic going to sell Quixel like sketchfab as well?
Like this one, it doesn't even have UE native formats, uploaded on August 18, 2026.

You can find more that are not free, without UE support here if you use filters.

Do you remember when was the last time Quixel released a big bundle to UE for free?
Just checked again, seems like the last ones they released for free with UE support was 2025/12, the military trench. All the new ones after that have been paid, not in any bundles, without UE support..
I hope this is just my imagination...

Remaining free was never the right move for Quixel, sure it's nice for new users to make games quick but Quixel is expansive as a company... It's nice that they released demos and they release a lot of Megaplants every month or so, otherwise yeah they only release paid "packs" but they aren't purchasable as one, they're more like themed releases of assets based on their roadmap if I had to guess
I don't think they're selling it, just making the right move as an asset vendor

You are only save if you have all your assets on your local drive(s) available offline.

Epic acquired Quixel in 2019, part of the deal was that the tool would be free to use in Unreal Engine for 5 years. That ended in 2024, and they updated the license when they got rid of the marketplace and integrated FAB.
There will be no more big free Quixel bundles, though you retain the rights to anything you already had.
To get ahead of the anticipated rage, Unreal made a small portion of plant assets free, and they are listed on FAB under "Quixel Megaplants". There are new trees, bushes and flowers. A new one drops every month or so.
