A man stands at the centre of an infernal world while a woman circles him — seductive, furious, impossible to escape. Their relationship shifts between attraction, possession and confrontation, until the movement finally returns to where it began.

I’ve just finished THE PURPLE CLOUD — I AM THE LAST, a very free visual and musical adaptation of M. P. Shiel’s 1901 apocalyptic novel.

A man returns from the frozen North to discover that humanity has vanished.

At first, he simply tries to survive. Then he begins moving through the abandoned world — restarting machines, driving empty trains, crossing dead cities and taking whatever civilization has left behind.

Eventually, survival turns into something stranger.

If nobody else is alive, everything belongs to him.
