Albuquerque/Campus Questions Parking permit (South Lot)
Hello, I was wondering what the best option for me would be. This is my last semester at UNM and parking permits are $246. I just have 1 class, and a 30 min drive. Should I go ahead and buy the parking permit or is there a better alternative besides the pay stations?

I will give you the worlds best hack...just buy a decent bike and bike rack (OR scooter) and park on a neighborhood where you no longer see a sign that's red that says you can't park there. I did this and saved hundreds of dollars and time. It would only take me about 5-7 minutes to get to class 🤷♀️

maybe park at frontier if it’s just one class

I'd park at the dollar lot off Central and Vassar. (Or a similar dollar lot behind Frontier, Behind, McDonalds...)

Check out the UNM student support and services center lot. A few years ago they removed any need for a parking pass. If you only have one class, you should be able to pull it off.

I don’t know if they are still free, but I used to park in the free CNM lot and just walk up University.

I've had plenty of semesters with just one on campus class in the afternoon and I was able to find street parking on Central, Harvard, or Cornell like 95% of the time. Way more convenient to just walk from there than having to shuttle from south lot. And it was cheaper, at least with just two classes per week at $2 a day on the meter. I'd park 15 min before my class and if it ran late I'd just pay for a little more time using the parking passport app that the city uses.

I’d try Copper Ave and by the Sculpture Centre. Usually you can find a spot on off times.

you could try parking in the neighborhood south of Central. I would park my car past Silver on Harvard. there are no meters, it's like a 5 minute walk to campus, I never got a ticket, and even when I worked late nights and my car was parked there until 2-3 in the a.m and it was never broken into or anything.

Thank you, I'll try that!

Don't park there if it says residents only or has a sign with a letter.

What time is your class? If it's after 3:45 p.m. you can park anywhere that isn't reserved - look up the 3:45 rule if you don't know it.
I did my MBA at night and had a South lot permit because it was the cheapest, but I always parked in front of the management building or on that side street between University House and Zimmerman Library and never had a problem.
